Turning a statement into a question by suffixing it with "yeah?"

"that XXXX XXXXXXXX has been suspended without prejudice" surely there is prejudice because he was suspended based on another parent claiming 4 people have been "bullying" there son who has aparently cried 17 times since joining cadets.....
Without Prejudice has a specific meaning and purpose. It has nothing to do with the Cadet Leader's personal feelings towards your son.

It may also mean you have leave to appeal the suspension.

Soooo, what is the nickname?

if you learned to start a letter with "i am writing" you learnt wrong.
but these days english is a lazy language so it wouldnt suprise me.

DON?T start with clich? phrases like ?I am writing because…? or ?With regards to…?. This simply appears that you don?t know where to start. The real message won?t start until after those phrases, so why not eliminate the unnecessary and uncreative words?

if your writing a letter and want to instantly get the persons attention show some inteligence

You're wrong, sorry. Plenty of very intelligent professionals, everyone I work with for example, start letters that way.

Since when did being ill equate to skiving?

if he had been off for flu and brought a letter in from doctor for being ill then his boss would have taking this in to account. got to be more to the story!

doesnt beat the letter i had telling me my son is suspended from cadets it started with

"i am writing to inform you" erm yea it is a letter after all .....

one of the staff members just didnt go into cadets upon hearing the news lol.

its a bit of harmless name calling between a bunch of guys everyone has nicknames there its not our fault if this kid is overly sensitive and hes on about joining teh army lol.

Nothing wrong with starting a letter like that, I always do it. As for the name calling, tell the kid to grow a pair. If you cry over name calling, then the army isn't for you.

We're thinking about implementing these 'return/back to work interview.' For us the idea was to try and make people think twice about bunking off work for no reason, but obviously you cant just have interviews with people who you think are bunking off. So everyone has to have one. (Prolly get out of it with a doctors note, dont know the details)

Seems to have some effect though if its causing some annoyance if only because the guy himself irritates you.

With the greatest respect I hope you don't implement such a thing in your workplace. I've only worked for 2 different companies but there was a marked difference in the way they dealt with absence.

One allowed you sick time when ever you needed it and didn't question it unless it became 'abnormally high', this was great as it meant I wasn't worrying constantly about whether or not my sickness was bad enough to justify taking the day off and avoided being stressed out unnecessarily over what is very unimportant. As a result I didn't take a sick day because I felt supported by the company and thus wanted to do my best in return.

My current employer uses the scheme you are considering implementing. The problem is that it doesn't phase those who don't see it as a career, the people who want some pocket money for the weekend don't care if they have a clean slate or are on a final written and no amount of 'back to work', 'advice and counselling' or 'disciplinary' interviews bother them. The people really affected by this are those who do consider it a career who then worry about this interview EVEN IF it's not expressly targeting them and they're told this.

Basically the people who are only ill when they need to be will still take the same time off (ie only when they are too ill to work) but they will feel victimised by doing so and the people who continually take Saturday off will continue to do so because if they're going to be off with a hangover every couple of weeks then they don't take the job seriously enough anyway.

The best course of action would be to continue to target those with above average absence levels, it targets the right people without tarring everyone with the same brush.

lol at OP, i did similar in a disciplinary years ago after being signed off after twisting my back AT WORK (muscle damage), i received a verbal warning but i wasted 6 hours (2 of mine, 2 of my interrogators and 2 of the recorders) of company time doing so, i hope punishing someone who rarely took time off up until then was worthwhile.

facepalm rubbish. :p

I take it you've never had to write a lot of letters then?

Don't be naive. I argued that 'if the doctor agrees I am unfit for work how can you punish me for it (especially as it was a work related injury)' and I got a load of spiel about 'it's not the reasons for your absence, it's the levels of absence that you have'.

same thing happened to a mate who had a ladder slip out from underneath him because the rubber grips had come off and not been reported, he got a verbal warning for 'absence level not the reason for your absence', an absolute crock of **** especially as it's their duty to ensure equipment is safe for use.

Cool story bro.

Have an epic life fail.

My old boss used to frequently end sentences with the work yeah. Normaly because not matter how much I tried he could always read it on my face that I thought his ideas were completely retarded.
