Turning off macbook??

Generally I only shut it down for software updates and when I know in advance I won't be using it for a while. Very occasionally something will be acting weird and the reboot is the first fix.

As for the component strain, I really wouldn't worry about it. Your main enemy is mavity. :p

i never shut mine down i just close the lid, thats whats great about OS X is that sleep actually works and doesnt take for ever like Windows

Yeah and it sleeps forever... well a long time. The wife never really shuts her MacBook down she just closes the lid and my iMac only rarely is shut down. One thing that really gets my goat about Windows is it is so damn crappy at sleep/suspend even in Win 7.

I don't think I've ever shut my MacBook down, it's pretty much always either in use or sleeping. Normally it gets switched on in the morning when I wake up and then it sleeps when I go to bed.

My pc in sleep essentially is off anyway, all my fans turn off and I forget its in sleep. Hit the power button expecting bios + boot and its at the login screen :p
