No, they don't "need a rest". And as for a lot of waste heat....why not? Don't they need a rest? I'd rather that converter wasn't running all the time as it puts out a lot of waste heat.
Barely any power is used at all, they're very low powered devices. The amount of heat is minimal, the total electricity drain is miniscule. Why faff about, just leave 'em on.Just leave it on, uses like 2Watts. Probably costs about £1-2 per year to leave on.
