Turtwig, Piplup or Chimchar?

don't give those HM's to your battling pokemon. catch some HM slaves!

Only decent HMs to use on your main pokemon would be surf, fly and maybe cut.

Already given it to Onyx.

Why shouldnt i give them to battling Pokèmon?

And are the HMs move that can be 'learnt' by pokemon anyway? Or is that HM i just used the only one i'll get in the entire game?

no but a pokemon cannot unlearn, or overwrite a HM, so whilst it may be a good move now, by LVL 50 you'll be wishing you could use that space for a new move it is trying to learn.

there is a HM Move Unlearner guy but thats a long way into the game.

i usually get a pokemon that will take 3 HM's and load em up so i can take that pokemon in my squad knowing the utility!"

Does the move unlearner allow the Hm to be used on another Pokemon?
Plus, rock smash seems pretty powerful for Onyx..

He makes them forget any move, including HM's. You can use HM on as much pokemon as you want, aslong as they're able to, it'll last forever. Theres also AR codes to make any pokemon learn any HM or TM i.e. Teach Onyx fly.

Things like rock smash, defog, waterfall just aren't that good for beating higher level pokemon. Strength isn't even that good.

Were as Fly is pretty damn good against bug pokemon and Surf against Rock.

Picachu. :p.
Shinx>Pikachu

You could always get a gible, its not rock(ground/dragon) but its a very powerful physical pokemon

im not a very big fan of high defense pokemon :D especially one with a gaping hole in its special defense

you really want to keep duplicates of certain elements to a minimum so you would have to get rid of zubat and bidoof aswell

if you really want onyx keep him, but you dont need him if you have a water or ground pokemon as most of your other pokemon have types that are effective against the ones rock are super effective against

Right. Got meself a DS. Gonna pick up a Pokemon after work today.

Which is better of the two: Pearl or Diamond?

Neither?

Both have slightly different pokemon and a different legendary monster.
The diamond legendary could be considered better as its types overlap to give it NO weaknesses(steel/dragon) but im not sure about its moveset and stats, pearls version has water/dragon(which is only weak vs dragon)

Most have diamond which is a good enough excuse for you to get pearl i guess(which doesnt sound as cool)

Just got to Eternal City (think thats what its called).
Well my main party atm involves only 4 pokemon:
- Luxio @ L16. (When does it learn some proper electrical moves?)
- Onix @ L17. (When does it evolve?)
- Staravia @ L17.
- Monferno @ L17.

So level wise, a well rounded team there imo, ive also got stored:
- Bidoof @ L5.
- Magikarp @ L4.
- Abra @ L5.
- Geodude @ **.
- Zubat @ L.8.
- Buneary @ L10.
- Silcoon @ L10.
- Shellos @ **.
- Buizel @ **.

Im unsure if any of my stored Pokèmon should be joining my main gang and getting leveled up or not?

Any general tips btw?

Thanks. :).

Oynx doesn't evolve. If you can bother leveling up magikarp to 20 it'll be worth it. Abra is good once it starts learning new moves. i'd recommend them two.

onyx does, you need a steel coat or something IIRC. it becomes steelix which is steel/ground type

like lolsim said though LEVEL THE MAGIKARP and levelling abra would also be a good idea

edit: you need to give it a steel coat and trade it with someone else

i thought they were two different types, didn't think it evolves!

Took me ages to evolve my magikarp but now its a powerhouse pokemon, great stuff :D

I'm also a fan of geodude in the right circumstances, but he can be painfully weak against the wrong opposition.

Staravia is pretty good i find, i also use Luxio and Prinplup.

Personally i'm glad i went for Piplup at the beginning because the first gym trainer is rock type and water type pokemon do a lot of damage, i walked through the whole gym with just Piplup.

Whats a good pokèmon, out of the ones ive listed above, to use cut with?
Im gonna start using the HMs like cut/surf/whatever others with just a HM pokemon like you all say. :).

My 'team' atm is now:
Well my main party atm involves only 4 pokemon:
- Luxio @ L16. (When does it learn some proper electrical moves?)
- Onix @ L17. (When does it evolve?)

- Magikarp (w/ experiance share).
- Abra.

Is cut a good offensive move in battle? or is it strictly a non battle move?
Im tempted to give it Luxio, because 'bite' is a good all round move, charge will come in handy when it finally learns some proper electrical moves, and tackle/leer arnt all that good. Bite is a 'normal' move, so tackle isnt really needed, and leer i dont use anyway?

Opinions?

##EDIT##
Odd.
Onix HAS got RockSmash, but it still appears in my 'bag' for giving to other Pokèmon? Is it a multiple use thing these HMs?

I would put cut on a HM mule tbh as its pretty poor later in the game, that bidoof you had earlier will do

HMs are multiple use as if they werent they could potentially break the game as if you deleted the move it would make it impossible for you to access certain areas

Ive given it Morferno.
Ive decided that moves that are HMs i'll give 1 per my main pokemon where applicable.
Taunt isnt all that good, and coupled with the hidden move, fury swipes and ember, Morferno hasnt lost any offensive ability, its gained some.
Hopefully it'll learn some proper fire moves so i can replace Ember.

I was thinking really, as you said, the HMs must be multiple use, because its not like Nintendo to create a game with a way to compltely mess it up. :p.
