maybe solution is increase funding - the germans finance higher, directly off of tax - I don't know if they have happier viewers (bbc4 has a podcast that discusses international 'solutions')

I provide them a means of recording any Freeview content they may not watch live -
freeview content you record and time-lag (3 minutes length of an advert break ?) watching, is that exempted.

with todays news, like netflix though, clearly I must sign up for Disney+ with its revised 7 dwarves, equally, Arts funding into RSC
The Royal Shakespeare Company's new production of Much Ado About Nothing is set in an Afro-futuristic world.

What I meant by that is I have Tvheadend set up on a server so if they want to record programs to watch later, they can. Recording live TV is not exempted AFAIK, but as my housemate pays the TV licence it doesn't really matter here. If I was the only person in the house that would obviously be a different matter as I have no intention of ever paying the BBC not to watch their shoddy programming (again, my opinion).

Disney just launched in a bunch of countries that won't like the woke agenda, going to be interesting to watch the fall out when they try to force gay sex scenes and woke agenda on UAE, Qatar etc...

OK - as I implied I thought it was not exempted too, but couldn't find anything categoric on the web. ...
AFAIK if your recieving a live feed your watching tv live.

technically no broadcast is "live" the tv in your kitchen might be 1 second ahead of the tv in your living room etc.

maybe not with cable but that's how it used to be.

it's still live as there's always a delay.

if your neighbour records Eastenders for you and posts it through your door every day on VHS or whatever I wonder if it's considered theft/piracy I guess so.

laws are weird though because you could go to your neighbours and watch it live/recorded on their TV.

whys it not stealing, what if your neighbour allowed you access to a camera/peep hole aimed at their TV is that illegal to if you don't have a TV License.

you need a TV license for iplayer yet?

Watching live broadcast on Youtube, CNN or any 3rd party website should be fine so long as its nothing related to BBC. The ITV player is all fine, its purely the iplayer? I assume also the BBC videos on youtube dont relate to a license.

I dont see why performing arts deserves a subsidy and special treatment more then any other industry. At one point in time it was justified, broadcast was new and promoted. Its related to news and some extent thats part of government information etc. They can trim it back to the news now, no need to avoid private capital funding for the rest. Why not operate a subsidy for the steel industry, subsidise gas and energy production is definitely arguable considering we're coming close to being cut off from europes largest producer

All of these are subsidised in various forms. Oil/Gas has had almost 13 billion since 2015, of which 3 billion is for decommissioning old stock.

Recording tv , watching utube live - I Subsequently checked

https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/faqs/FAQ33 , https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one

The law says you need to be covered by a TV Licence to:
  • watch or record programmes as they’re being shown on TV, on any channel
Watching online
You need to be covered by a TV Licence to watch or 'stream' programmes live on an online TV service - such as ITV Hub, All 4, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Now TV and Sky Go.
You don't need a TV Licence if you only ever watch on demand or catch up programmes on services other than BBC iPlayer - and never watch TV programmes live on any channel or TV service.
This applies to any device you use, including a TV.

Watching YouTube
You don’t need a TV Licence to watch videos or clips on demand on YouTube.
But you DO need a TV Licence if you watch TV programmes live on YouTube. An example of this would be watching Sky News live. But it isn’t just live news or sport which needs a licence – it’s any programme which is part of a TV channel, broadcast or transmitted for everyone to watch at the same time.

Those probably just wont be aired there. Only the West is forced to put up with race/gender politics.

Some of that would be illegal in those countries so the availability will be very different

Stricter then I realised jpaul, so anything in parallel broadcast in UK live. Only the news is close to relevant to me and it would only be CNN US website, hoping they dont broadcast in the UK dont think they do

CNN looks ok since september when it left freesat & became subscription or sky https://www.cordbusters.co.uk/cnn-leaving-freesat-virgin-media/

Ah poor you, triggered because people try and see things from a different point of view. Will you only be happy when there are only males playing all the roles, and Othello is played by a blackface actor as in the past?

let's subsidise something worthwhile/original instead of derivative, like bridgerton/black panthere eg. on BBC
Small Axe
Love letters to black resilience and triumph in London's West Indian community, directed by Oscar winner Steve McQueen. Vivid stories of hard-won victories in the face of racism.

An example of this would be watching Sky News live.
Is sky news live on youtube even the real skynews channel?

usually the "Live" youtube channels aren't live, they aren't a mirror of actual live TV but a small loop that goes on for about 30-60minutes and just keeps repeating with advert breaks.

if a story breaks they update the loop it's hardly a live feed in that case

If you receive (live) television programmes you need to have a TV licence, this includes Freesat and Sky. If CNN are broadcasting their television channel on Youtube, live or almost live, then a TV licence is required to watch it.

I think the BBC will have to change away from the licence model because once the boomers are gone so is most of the funding anyway. I certainly don't watch live TV anymore and its either on demand or get on a VPN.

I am tempted to opt out of the licence and state I no longer require a licence, then expect a random visit from someone that supposed to prove my innocence.. but I could refuse them entry, make it hard for them. I'm pro BBC but anti witch hunt. coz its 2022.
