TV Licence Super Thread

It'll give people the chance to stop paying council tax.

Afaik they did something similar in Germany. People didn't pay the X amount added for the TV company, they weren't really allowed but dragged it out forever with litigation to the point where the corporation and courts couldn't keep up.

It's a **** take that a private corporation can just help themselves to tax money like this.

Reform party says they will scrap it completely. Labour is just handing the next election to them at this point.

They keep increasing the fee, but the programming only not gets worse. Is all going in to oversized wages.

Once they are living on tax money, they should be offered standard civil service wages imo. If they don't like it, they can leave.

I assume all the keyboard warriors that hate the BBC took part in the public consultations around charter renewal? Probably not - better to post about it.

I'm not a subscriber to the BBC license fee so have zero interest in the BBC, a consultation regarding it or its charter. Thankfully, I have no hate in my heart so your attribution does not apply in my case. Good luck with it though, I hope the service improves for you.

Im not paying the BBC to watch countryfile

sorry

Iv not had anyone visit my house demanding money either

We’re keyboard warriors because we either don’t watch broadcast tv or don’t want to pay for the utter drivel the BBC put out?

Like they would actually pay attention to what the public want.

The public want good, non-woke shows. But that's the opposite of what they keep making. The streaming services learned that pretty quickly and U-turned.

Why should I take any interest in or time out of my day for an entertainment/news company that I'm not interested in.

The only reason I haven't cancelled is due to the OH being a worrier and old school in respect of 'That's how its always been'

Same, initially the missus was worried that we should have one just because, so we kept paying it. Been legally licence free for 8 or 9 years and despite the hundred or so letters still not had a visit.

I mentioned to her the suggestion of them adding it to council tax and she said over my dead body. Good girl;)

I think they'll have a hard time getting this passed in to law; not only is it anti-consumer but quite distasteful to the general public. It's a vote killer.

Determining the amount you pay based on the cost/size of your home turns the licence "fee" in to a tax, plain and simple. Just another tax for living in a house.

It'll be fine though, I'll just SOAN (Statutory Off Air Notification) my TV just like I SORN the car I have but don't drive on the public highway.

Knew it. Knew this was coming.

This is going to be a significant extra cost for those of us who don't pay.

Probably taking 2-300 more from us. Maybe more

It won't happen so I wouldn't worry.
I personally see it as inevitable.
It's easy to implement, you just raise CT by 100 for band A, 150 for band B etc etc.

BBC can then be completely unaccountable.

Of all the future plans this was my fear and the path I personally thought was most likely.

I don’t think it’ll happen.
The way our council tax is going to rise and rise and rise, adding something else to it would cause carnage for our financially illiterate government.

Many of the poorest would benefit remember.
It makes sense for Labour imo.

Well, for their traditional vote base.

A CT linked cost would benefit those on band A and B. Probably net neutral for band C.. And everyone else would be on higher base.
Those of us without a licence would be really bitten.
Probably take the cost of a cheap holiday from those in upper bands who don't pay.

It's lazy, it's easy, it's a catch all.. It's a perfect UK political party idea.

Agreed, but they’ll come a point where people have nothing left after being taxed every which way, and the thought of having to pay say £200 for a service they don’t use or want isn’t going to go down well at all.
