TV Product Placement

Because it can be very distracting, and I beleive works against the regulations regarding advertising times.

I suspect this is going to make Commercial TV in the UK just that little bit worse than it already is, suddenly everyone Corrie is likely to be using Nokia™ mobiles (complete with distinctive tone), the IT Crowd will have Cisco™ networks featured prominantly on every bit of networking gear, Ross Kemp will be running around in his Nike™ shoes etc.

I was watching Eureka the other day and the number of lingering shots on Cisco gear (complete with the logo) was silly, same with 24.

Tis was used in Transformer 2 too, speaking of which Michael Bay is notorious for it, too the point where he dedicates whole shots to the product. Horribly distracting.

Michael Bay's a whore for it. I hated some of the vehicles used in Transformers because of that. Neither could I stand the fact that certain parts were written in post script since e.g. GM had decided they wanted to promote another car at the last moment.

In the Island he says he used product placement because he wanted it to make it look as real as possible

Blade trinity was just a massive iPod advert "whehn i'm killing vampires, I like nothing more than to listen to music on my iPod"

though I remember a large number of years ago adverts telling viewers to report any product placement on tv, it was basically an australian soap where they put a ban of beer down infront of the camera, or the woman was picking up boxes where the label faced the camera etc.

Snakes on a Plane had red bull cans everywhere, It was so blatant I almost thought it was a joke at first.
