Twisters (July 2024)

I've fond memories of seeing the original at the cinema when I was a kid; convinced my dad to take me two or three times. Loved it then, and still do.

I'll definitely see this, though it will be bittersweet as my dad died last year, and we'd hoped to see this together.

This was actually surprisingly good.....7/10. It is essentially just Twister remade but the 2 main leads have good chemistry and it was just an enjoyable disaster flick. Nothing Oscar worthy but neither was the original. Good popcorn flick of old.

Do you need to have seen the original or is it a reboot?

Same watched it today and agree 7/10. I only recently watched the original and didn't think it was that special. The sequel was pretty decent with some cool effects and storyline at least. Surprisingly enjoyable. Good once off at the very least.

Not on par with the first one at all imo, Glen Powell properly hamming it up throughout this got little too much at times. Considering how heavy duty some of the actual storm chaser vehicles are it's a little hard to believe that a pick up can withstand a level 5 tornado.

Few little nods to the first one but nothing to say this a sequel apart from the name.

Is this a sequel to Twister (1996)? If so that was the only film I've actually walked out of the cinema in boredom.

Loosely it's not a direct sequel but takes ideas from it. Like you I thought the first one was quite boring too. I enjoyed this one much better imo

Saw this yesterday.

Interesting reading the above comments as my overall impression was also that it was surprisingly ‘boring’ - in the context of me expecting a bombastic ‘adventure / disaster’ popcorn yarn.

The ‘3 leads’ are all pretty good and have chemistry. No complaints there.

But the film is often humourless and lacks the sort of ‘swashbuckling excitement’ that I expect from a film like this. It’s played a little too straight and the action fails to conjure excitement, particularly in its final third after a lengthy period of ‘no action’.

Much more competent than I expected from a ‘personal drama’ and ‘character’ perspective, but overall lacks the charisma of the original.

If the idea of a less goofy version of the original appeals, you might enjoy it more than me… but these things are best when they are a little more popcorn-y, IMO.

Just got back and it's not that bad actually, I do prefer the original but if you enjoyed the original then you should enjoy this.

I'd certainly give it a 7.5\10
