**TWO CRAZY ACER 3D 120Hz MONITOR DEALS!!**

Does anyone know if these squeal or buzz? A friend of mine ordered the second screen (came with a black stand instead of orange) and it makes a buzzing sound when running over 60hz! It would drive me up the wall!

YES! Mine is making an awful noise, also audible at 60Hz when flipping between pages browsing.

at 100Hz and 120 Hz it's very noticable.

In 3D mode is stupid loud!? :eek:

Loud enough for an RMA :(

and mine also has the black stand, not orange.

this is the noise on the GD245HQ that I'm getting... :(

I have one of the first GD245HQ's and mine did that when I first got it and its stopped doing it now.

Don't know if it was anything I did though. You could try going into service mode, turning off overdrive, then hit reset and then turn overdrive back on.

I've read a couple of forums where they say it takes a while to 'bed in' but I've limited time on the RMA so don't really want to wait.

I've change the DVI cable, tried with HDMI cable, changed the power cable & the power socket (direct and through Surge protector)

Moved speakers away, turned off wireless mouse.

turned off my nearby wireless devices.

Unplugged all devices, all to no effect.

reset NVidia settings, re-installed drivers. re-installed monitor drivers.

I tried the OD/Reset as you suggested via without success.

Code:
first power off the display;
- next, press the left-most menu button on the panel, keep pressing it and then shortly press the power button on the monitor;
- you can release the left-most menu button when the screen comes on (perhaps sooner, haven't tried);
- press the middle button (third from either left or right);

made no difference :(

I've got the RMA in process, but will also talk to Acer support on Monday when they open. but from what I've read else where replacements have had the same issue.

It will probably stop doing it by itself. 120hz panels are basically overclocked panels from the factory and when capacitors are new and being pushed hard they can buzz until they sort themselves out.

Just found the answer to my earlier question, "this week only" is Wednesday to Wednesday, at this rate I'm going to end up buying one, damn you OCUK! I've already started looking into nvidia graphics cards to make use of 3D, that won't be for a while yet, in the meantime I'll have to put up with using it as a regular 120hz monitor!

Thanks!

Interesting. Makes sense.

Should I put it under load to speed up the process and how long do to reckon this might take?

I'm now leaning on keeping it for a bit, I do rather like it and could do without the hassle of and expense of sending it back and choosing a new one!

One of the comment, regarding 24" one, states that you cannot get 120Hz through HDMI. That's quite important factor as I want to use it for my console as well. Is that right?

120Hz doesn't work on any monitor through HDMI input as HDMI only supports max 60Hz at 1080p. To get 120hz for PC gaming u need to use Displayport or DVI-D (this monitor has DVI-D).

U can still use the HDMI for ur console gaming as aren't consoles limited to output at 60Hz anyway?

so when is the 27" in then ? shows as eta - overdue ?

I rang up on Monday to see when the 27" was coming into stock. I was anytime this week, which probably means they don't know.
I ordered mine on Thursday as it said that they were due in on the Friday. May give it a couple more days before I do some more chasing, then maybe cancelling :(
I HATE WAITING!!!!

Mine came today (24"), very impressed with it, it does have a slight buzz at 120hz but it's not too bad, must be slightly lucky!

I need a way to get the 3D working now though, I downloaded the Tridef trial which doesn't work with it, so I set it to use green/purple glasses and borrowed a pair off my sister, I was surprised how good it was with them, still want the proper glasses to work, I'll be in for a long wait if I need a new graphics card though!
