Two greedy Italians

Yes, I'm loving it. At the moment there's quite a few Italian things on TV that I seem stumble into - Monty Don and something else I can't remember what ...

I actually ordered their book recently. I love the simple rural cuisine, nothing fancy just good wholesome food!

In fact, watching that show today inspired me to cook tapas tonight (it's still Mediterranean right?!) and drink far too much rosé finished with a Cognac and a coffee. I wish I'd have cooked a nice pasta as even 4 tapas dishes take loads of effort!

It did - you can't really go wrong - it's such a simple recipe. Did it with pasta and half the sauce as a starter then the meat as a main. Left it cooking about 2.5 hours and the meat was just falling off the ribs :)

brilliant series and love the social history side

Have done the ricotta gnochi a couple of times and the ragu with ribs, beef and sausage. Both good and very easy.

Did the gnochi on Friday but made chicken mialnese and a creamy chili, basil and tomatoe sauce to go with it.

I'm enjoying this series too. Does anyone else get the feeling that inside Carluccio is deeply unhappy and feels like he's missed out on the family life? Sad :(

Totally with you on that one, very sad. It's quite an emotional programme to be fair - he had me starting to go a couple of times! Especially at that drug commune place.

It makes you realise all material things are pointless; only happiness matters, and for Italians, family & food are the most important things.

Loving the series. They're genuinely funny characters who just love food. :)
On one of the last shoots I was on before I left the TV game the cameraman had done some filming with Gennaro. He genuinely came from a poverty stricken poor background and is a simple excitable man. They were filming on a boat somewhere and according to the cameraman he completely randomly pulled out a small extending fishing rod he had hiding in his pocket and started catching fish from the river! Loved that story.

Does Gennaro's accent remind anyone else of an Italian Terry Tibbs? :P

Quite an emotional journey like others are saying, but interesting nonetheless.
