About two weeks ago I posted a thread about this man Harry Patch the last man alive who fought in the trenches of WWI (and a bloody legend I might add)

Now, poking aroung the beeb site today I find Henry Allingham who's a bit older than Harry. Another hero.

Henry, I salute you. \o\

Much respect to all our armed forces, past and present. It's sad that these connections to the past are being lost.

I have the upmost respect fo these 2 Gemtlemen and all others that lost there life in the conflicts.

They will NEVER be forgotten.

PS: I saw Harry Patch on a documentary a while back he is a diamond.

Re-read your thread. I told you about Allingham. He went up in planes which were so slow that sometimes when trying to fly into the wind they had negative ground speed (they were going backwards!).

I did too, although I'd describe him more as a gigantic king of excellence.

All veterans are awesome people, my deepest respect goes to all of them, especially those who would still be here.

Even though some may not like what im going to say its true.

They murdered germans, and germans murdered us too. War is wrong. No one should be a hero for that.

No, they didnt murder anyone. Killing in war is legal and therefore not murder.

War is a horriffic thing but statements like the one you made doesnt do anything to promote your cause at all.

They were heroes - they were all willing to give their lives for something they believed in. Something you probably cannot comprehend, given your post.

Killing may be legal in the law if you are in the army, but you have no right to take lives. Full stop.

Did you see Martin Luther King wagin war? No.

Right, so a pedophile is raping 2 5 year old girls, hes a lot bigger than you and you fight him and in the process he fights back, you end up having to kill him or be killed, you manage to kill him, save the girls, but your not a hero because you killed someone? GG n00b

Did you see all the Jews in the ovens because people were to cowardly to stand up for themsevles?

Coward.

No, your never a hero for killing someone. You took someone else life. Something which no one has NO right whatsoever to do.

Also Did you see all the blacks from Africa stand up when they were being kidnapped for slavery? mmmmmmm.

Kill or be killed - you think the bigger man just lets his friends and countrymen get slaughtered?

Your perception of moral values is seriously askew.

Your view of hero is askew too. If you think someone who faught in a war could be a hero, you might as well support paedophiles fighting for what they believe, Nambla comes to mind.

I'm sorry but that is a disgraceful attitude ... seriously! The world would be very different today if it wasn't for these people. They may not have enjoyed what they were doing and may not ever do it again, but that does not mean that we should ignore what they have done. Appauling attitude tbh - especially considering what they were fighting for.

I know your German and war is probably a touchy subject, but to say someone who fought in a war is not a hero is narrow minded and ignorant.

I know they did it for good reasons, but in reality its wrong.

Now to think of it like that, Hitler was evil and the Nazis deserved it.

But in my opinon its murder both ways, the germans were worse though :(

The way this discussion is going reminds me of a quote from a poster I have on my wall:

Albert Einstein said:
He who joyfully marches to music rank and file, has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action. It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder.

Whether or not I agree with it is another matter, I mainly bought the poster cause I liked the image:

Exactly, the nazi's had to be killed, and it took hero's to step up to the plate to do it? Or would you not have anybody stand up for it, and let evil people like Hitler kill all the jews?

(i didnt know you were german btw, it was just the topicl i mean no personal offense in this)
