Two "last" veterans

I'm sorry but that is a disgraceful attitude ... seriously! The world would be very different today if it wasn't for these people. They may not have enjoyed what they were doing and may not ever do it again, but that does not mean that we should ignore what they have done. Appauling attitude tbh - especially considering what they were fighting for.

i agree, world war I and II were our countrys finest hour and should be remberebed as such, and ever soldier dead or alive has my deepest respect for protecting my way of life which imho is still the best country on earth.

I have no right to take someones life? Oh right, and who told you that?

The only restrictions we have are those of religion (self-restriction) and law (forced restriction). Whatever man, if I see a guy planning on killing me, I'll kill him first and think nothing of it.

What's wrong with you? Are you religious?

Furthermore, if someone is willing to die or be seriously injured for his country; whether he kills no man or 100 men, he is a hero for going out there.

tbh, although these comments are on-thread, I don't think they are appropriate to the tone of faitians original posting.

If anyone wants to discuss war as a whole SC is probably the place to do it, whereas this thread is, I believe, a place to show respect (should you wish to) to those who fought to make our world a better place, and to allow people to have opinions and to be able to voice them, whatever they are.

If you don't want to do that, it's easy enough to press the back button. I think we should respect the tone of the OP and keep to that track :)

What she said.

Just saw this on the news. I feel disgusted whenever I hear anyone disrespect the WWI/WWII veterans, they are absolute heroess in my eyes and people nowadays don't apprecdiate that the freedom they have is a result of the brave souls who died for us to keep it.

*Does virtual salute*

Even though some may not like what im going to say its true.

They murdered germans, and germans murdered us too. War is wrong. No one should be a hero for that.

Germany instigated World War I when they invaded neutral Belgium and war was declared.

I disagree with the word murder but I will say that the way to win a war is to kill more of them than they do of you.

War is wrong ? I would agree entirely with that but war is a part of human nature and it is here to stay.

I will certainly not agree that people are not heroes as a result of war. All war is a dirty, horrible business where terrible decisions have to be made and equally terrible acts have to be done.

WWI was the forst ' Total War ' where so many countries of the world were fighting and it was also the first modern war where tanks and aircraft were used and also poison gas where the British gasmask first used was a urine soaked hanky.

The conditions in WWI were appaling. Trench warfare, freezing mud, knee deep in water, lice, constant shelling, poison gas, shell shock, watching your mates get blown apart by shelling or cut down with machine gun fire, getting sprayed with blood and body parts ...........

Any person serving in that war gets my glass raised to them, as do any war veterans. The sacrifices made by them are incalculable and they did this not for money nor seeking fame. They did it through a sense of duty, pride and honour that is sadly lacking in this country and contributes to the state that it is in now.
