What? Where did the banter go?

I dont know, but I'm putting this back here for good measure -

Don't mistake me taking the time to explain something to someone who mightn't know the details of a story (which I think is a fair assumption when they express suprise and disbelief rather than just simply disagree) as some tacit agreement with anyone or anything.

For the record I don't think Rooney 'held United to ransom', although it does somewhat show up his record on loyalty and professionalism a bit. For a while there I thought we were above the antics of Terry, Gerrard, et al...

You have still missed the point though.
Holding to ransom means he's got something over the club and they can't live without him.
Fergie and the board could have told him to go and the fans at the time would have accepted it.
He did not hold them to ransom.

Please don't make me have to use placards to get this through to you.

You expressed suprise and disbelief ("what? how?") at the suggestion Rooney "held United to ransom". I ran on the assumption that you didn't know what occured with Rooney, as surely someone that disagreed would just, y'know... disagree rather than ask questions, and I explained it to you.

Fair enough you may have known, but since when does me explaining the facts on a reasonable but ultimately incorrect assumption that you didn't know mean a) I am 'missing the point' and b) I tacitly agree with what was said, even though I have explicitly stated by now that I do not.

I make judgements all the time

Well that's all I'm doing.

however I don't voice them as fact until I have met someone or at least know far more about them

Fine, please suffix everything I say with 'imo', just to make it clear if it wasn't already obvious, that it's just an opinion. Maybe I should sig it for you? 'Cause I'm sure as hell not going to bother typing 'imho' after everything I say.

I also do not make judgements of someone's character based on who they work for or by some set of partisan criteria as you are doing.

I don't care who he plays for, I don't even support a premiership team. My team is Southampton. I'm basing it on his behaviour on the pitch, he is quite obviously a ***** scumbag rascal churl lout.

IMVHO

Cant argue with the decision really, Rooneys a bit of a prat for doing it, however, who in their right mind thinks the football stadium is a no swear zone. Turn the ****ing camera mic off, as you hear it from fans, managers, players swearing at refs anyway. Far worse out there. At least the lad is passionate (including his outburst in South Africa) for football.

The people sat at home with their six year olds weren't at the stadium, and have the right not to expect to hear that kind of behaviour.

This.

everyone knows there's swearing all the time , and expect to hear it at a game, but its very rear you hear it at home on tv unless you lip read the players or you get some mouthy player come up to the camera!

No, they do not have the right, but other players apart from Rooney get abuse yet manage not to behave like apes. But then he's just a ***** from a ***** family.

Indeed, Rooney is the first player EVER to react to the crowd giving him abuse.

Feel free to start a thread about those other players, this thread is about Rooney. Or should we list here every other instance of players reacting to abuse, just to be fair to Rooney?

They were all ****** from ***** families as well. Robbie G should know.

Why should I know?
