Two monitor setup

Would mixed resolution cause the same?

Alright, so just tested with 720p on one and 1080p on other both at 70hz, memory clock 300mhz, 30c idle, seems to work fine though I cant say for sure for 1440p and 1080p is gonna be the same as I dont have, maybe someone else can confirm. If you mix refresh though you will get constant max memory clock and much hotter idling (2000mhz mem and 48c idle in my case)

I found a comment by AMD that said its known issue that wont be fixed and same on Nvidea, just the nature of using mixed refresh.

Thanks for doing a little test for me. Very helpful. I'll have to look into this further then and if anyone else can maybe try similar I would be grateful.
I see I can get the Dell Dell S2719DGF for around £300 now.

Its not really a huge issue but some might not like it if they like to run really cool, Its actually quite a big difference atleast 18C in my case compared to matched refresh (on a 580 8GB). There's no real harm in running the memory clock at max constantly.

That is a fair difference. I'll look into prices and max sizes for my desk when I get home later in the week.

Just done some measuring, I won't be able to fit a dual setup unless i get rid of my printer and move my desktop too. Even then I think I would be limited to 24"

Why on earth would you throw away desk space for either of those two things?

Or just get a stand.

not from my experience. my vega will merrily down-clock when doing nothing intensive running a 144hz monitor an old 60hz tv. obviously when i game on the monitor it jumps up.

Interesting, maybe newer GPU's can do this or its only certain ones do this then. I klnow AMD commented on this bug but this was pre-Vega

I've just been playing around with custom resolutions in the Radeon settings. I've managed to set my 75Hz Iiyama monitor to 140Hz and all seems well.

brother-in-law has a printer plonked on his computer desk. huge beast of a thing that restricts mouse movement. never thought much of it till i had to do something on the pc for him one day and i had a bit of a moan about it. during our conversation it turned out he hadn't used in at least a year......why the **** is it still sat there then?!

please tell me you at least make regular use of your printer to justify it taking up desktop space :D

i'll double check when home just to make sure i'm not making a liar out of myself :p maybe a driver update sorted it or summat.

Yea let us know, just look for memory clock, with mixed refresh it should max out constantly, ill try find the qoute from AMD about it when I get home, they said they were not going to fix it as its just the nature of it. But maybe newer cards can do this no problem now as it was a while ago.

yup, just checked and all working fine - no games running mem drops to 800mhz. screen 1 144hz screen 2 59hz - also changed the res on screen 2 between it's native (720) and 1080 just to be doubly sure.

Ah ok cool, this might not be a thing to worry about with more recent cards then, i've just been talking alod of bs in this thread!

Worry not, the world of gpu’s is filled with wonderful and weird anomalies. Another driver update could very well bring the activity you speak of back again!
