I forced myself to use Swype when I got it with my Galaxy S years ago, and I've used it ever since.

I'm confused, what is swiping? Obviously I mean in the context of the thread.
It's when you keep your finger mostly on the screen and join the letters together by 'swiping' your finger around rather than individually pressing each letter. It's an awful situation and frowned upon by most right thinking folk.

Oh, didn't know you could do that. Just tried it, it's horrendous.
Once preserved with, you'll find that going back to tapping just isn't an option.

I said the exact same thing to my pal about a decade ago, Malevolence. It then crept up on me as a useful feature not that long ago, especially for single finger typing. Perfect for cold/glove weather!

That post deserves applause. But I'll refrain from goring you :)

I type because it's more convenient for me. Use whatever works. It doesn't matter.

Swiping has its own dictionary now... I just assume the other party is going to roll their eyes and understand what i meant in most cases lol.

If you can spell, swipe is a lot faster. You need to swipe through each letter in the word and if you miss letters out or put them in the wrong order it doesn't work so well.
Typing is better if you're not so good at spelling. Autocorrect can usually figure out what you're trying to type in this situation or the person on the other end can work it out.

I swipe most of the time and occasionally have to revert to typing it out if I come across a word I can't spell.

Ever since I started to swipe, I find it feels a bit awkward to type; all that tippy tappy stuff does my head in, watching some folks furiously blur thumbing a Facebook rant is an affront to my eyes and ears.
I'd type just to **** off your kind... and I'd do it on a phone so old it still has a slide-out full-size landscape QWERTY board, but still only use one finger!

TBH, I tried Swype and a couple others before, but they're just too much hassle.
I remain fully manual and I disable autotype and all other 'assistance features', because they never get it right and I don't have time to mess around teaching it all the things I can just type as I go.

Just gave swiping a go and it seems to work alright, so I'll trial it for a couple of days. I seem to remember trying it a number of years ago and it was complete poop, but the algorithms have no doubt improved since then.

Is it not called flow rather than swipe? At least that's what i recall when swiftkey added the feature all those years ago. Either way, i don't think many people used it that way.
