I've been asked to make a thread about Type Rs and other Honda's. I've had 7 Type Rs now, I keep coming back to them for whatever reason. I've managed to build up a wealth of knowledge over the years on all sorts, more so to do with the Type R side rather than S2000 so if you have any sort of question, be it tuning, which garages to avoid, something is not working right, what to look out for or anything else then I'll do my best to help and I'm sure others will as well.

I've had the following cars myself:

2004 EP3
2005 EP3 (Gruppe M and Spoon exhaust)
2001 DC5 (240bhp +, massive mods list)
1999 CH1
1999 DC2 UKDM
2002 EP3
2000 CH1

I'm hoping to be in a DC5 again by the end of the year but that is down to a lot of factors outside of my control so time will tell.

I've had a few VTEC's as I do enjoy the high revving engines, I'll try and do them in order.

CH1 an import Accord Torneo? They are one of my favourites, my memory is rusty

1998 Civic Coupe SR EJ8
1999 Civic VTI MB6
1998 Civic EK3
1998 Civic VTI MB6
1999 Civic VTI EK4 (FL)
1996 Civic VTI EK4 (PFL)
2002 Accord VTEC Sport
2000 Honda Prelude VTI

My name is merlin and I have been a vtecaholic for many years.

I like throttle response, high revs, changing gear like loading a rifle, high pitched engine notes, natural induction noises, thunderously strong engines with excellent reliability & no heat issues.

Had: 248bhp DC5.

Want: NSX, summer 2013.

CH1 is an Accord Type R, UK model. CL1 is the Euro R from the same era.

You still banging that NSX Drum?!? :p

Currently own an s2000, love the noise, love the response, love that it revvs very high.

Ive had a Rover Coupe, originally D16a6 (110bhp) then D16A9 (130bhp - tuned to 150) before taking that out and replacing with a B16a1 CRX VT lump with 160bhp, it was then turbo charged with a Sunny GTiR T28. Revs and lots of power.... still held onto a degree off VTEC ness thanks to the high A/R Turbine housing so the engine still breathed with relatively lower Turbine Inlet Pressure.....

Then a Integra SiR-G with the JDM non R B18C (180bhp tuned to 200bhp)

Now I have an all ally Honda VTEC.... just not an NSX.
2001 Honda Insight with 180k miles for the other end of the VTEC scale and low 2300rpm @ 70mph!

Still get to drive the fast stuff.... had the pleasure of a 2011 XKR convertible for 2 weeks over Christmas

VTEC y0

Does mine count? :p

EV1 running completely stock. K20A3 with a Vtec point of 2400RPM lol. Still 160bhp with cruise VSA and climate aint all bad. If only my testicles didn't work so well I would have been knocking about in an EP3.

EDIT: Bet you don't know too much about mine... gauntlet laid :-)

I had a DC5, lightly tuned to 232hp with associated mods.

I really miss the K20 it was easily the best engine ive ever driven.

Now drive a scooby which is great in its own right with a lot of plus points over the teg but i still have a hankering for the high revving N/A so not sure how long i'll hold off going back to VTEC of some sort.

My ultimate car would be a K20'd elise/exige

Loved my mapped DC5, it's absolutely spine tingeing listening to it to it rev to over 8500.

Did you have a KPRO?

Absolutely love mine. got my limit to 8500, bit scared of putting it to 8600.

Best thing is, whenever I come to sell it I'll hopefully get the same money back as they don't tend to lose value.

Never been tempted to stick a JRSC on one of your EP3's?

No. 240+ bhp from KPro, intake, exhaust and header is more than enough for the EP3, especially if it doesn't have a diff. If you want more power, buy a car that's designed to have more power in the first place, IMHO.

My first EP3 was my first "hot" car, 'twas also my second car ever, till someone drove into it. The second EP3 was an insurance replacement.

The reason I bought the third is because my DC2 had just sold and the EP3 was cheap with loads of decent mods on it. I bought it, stripped and sold the mods, sold the car and then bought the ATR which I have now which I actually prefer to the EP3. Saying that, I much prefer the K20 and gearbox over the H22 and 5 speed that is in the Accord.

Kpro
Gruppe M
Toda manifold
T1R 63mm stainless steel exhaust
AP racing grooved discs with Mintex 1144
TEIN coilovers, then D2 coilovers which were pants (lesson learned!), then stock dampers with Eibach springs
SPC camper arms
Buddy club bonnet
Mugen wing (haters)

Loads more.

Stock valvetrain on the early cars will take 8600, mine was mapped with a limit of 8800 which is a little high but I never had an issue. Stock cams will stop making power over 8600 anyway.

With most of the mods on it:

The private plate was for lulz.

I had my DC5 vtec @ 4350 and limit @ 8650 rpm - any higher limit = valve bounce.
