hi there, im not too car savvy...sooo... i just wanted to ask a quick question.

i have a corsa 1.2 at the moment, and im looking to get something a bit quicker..

Now i test drove a mazda RX8PZ the other day which i liked, and it was fairly pokey. certainly compared to what ive been driving.

ive also come across a sapphire blue Type-R, FN2 i believe... now will this be much quicker or a better drive than the mazda? as im torn between the two.

i love the sound of vtec etc.. so maybe the battle is won already?

just a couple of opinions would be nice of people who own them or have driven one (FN2). im not looking for blistering performance.. just an upgrade to what i have atm.. which to be fair, is a damn boring drive.

Cheeers!

It was an available colour on the FN2 late in it's run, can't remember when exactly but was quite late I think. Much like the fact that they also had the LSD on models from 2010 onwards rather than just on the CW edition.

The RX8 can be a very expensive car to run, it uses a lot of fuel and has potential engine issues due to its wankel engine. It really needs to be looked after to give it the best chance of surviving long term.

Also, due to these issues the RX8 has suffered from very heavy depreciation, so if you are thinking about spending a considerable amount on money on one you could lose a lot of cash very quickly.

Just do your research before buying one. They are great cars but have significant issues compared to the Civic which will probably just 'work'.

the RX8PZ is up for sale for £8,500. and when i test drove it.... it did have an engine light lit up. so thats probably not a good thing, although, it did still run.

just also seen this.. the only problem i have is living on an island, can be a pain to get it back here.

They can suffer from compression issues which will effect the power delivery and It's recommended to get a compression test done before buying one. Expect low 20's for MPG figures, if your lucky ;).

I'd just like to reiterate, I'm not recommending you don't buy one but be aware of the potential issues and costs involved.

ah i see. so i guess thats decided then. im not good with cars, so i want something thats not going to give me hassle :p

looks like its the honda then :) now its just trying to find one at a good price.. cheers for the advice though!

edit: is it bad thats its an import or does it make it better??

Many would argue the FD2 is the better of the two (including myself) but personally it was too big for me, prefer hatchback. Insurance would be higher on FD2 due to import and more bhp.

The civic will definitely be less hassle! The fact that it is an import just means that insurance would be higher and they are a bit harder to find.

I think the FD2 looks better than the FN2, not sure on the handling, I've read it's supposed to have the edge over the FN2. But if I was serious about buying I would test drive both to see what I would prefer.

ok... cheers guys :) really interested in the FD2...... ive got two children, so it'd be easier to take them out in the FD2 rather than the FN. :) i'll have to look into it a bit more.

FD2 is quite a lot better, much stiffer on the road though. Look on youtube for fn2 vs fd2, I think it was vicky butler Henderson

Thing is, if I was looking for a civic type R it would have to be the EP3. It offers as much if not more in terms of driving experience and is a whole world of cheaper.

You buy a type R for it's racey revvy engine and it's going to spend a lot of time being driven fairly hard. It's a performance hot hatch and the EP3 is often claimed to be the best of it's generation. Someone who wants this level of performance would surely be swayed towards the EP3 as it is so much more value than the FN2.

I'm not having a dig at new civic, I think it looks fantastic and has a very modern interior, I just wouldn't be able to get the fact out my head that it hasn't really evolved it's driving dynamics or engine along with the rest of it.

If you wan't the FN2 because it is newer and probably more comfy then fair enough (I did exactly this with my mx5), if you want the FN2 because it's a type R then it might also be worth considering the older model?

i'll be driving it like i stole it when i first get it ;) haha kidding.. just want something to drive sensibly around in, but have the power there if i need it. and the reason why i was gonna go for a newer fn2 was because they were still offering warranty on the blue one ive seen at the garage. does the fn2 not have 40bhp more than the ep3?

It does not.
