Tyre need replacing?

Yeah this nonsense always happens when it's family, especially in-laws. I hope you've learned your lesson :P

I'd say that's probably fine just the rim protector doing its job as intended, no cords exposed so i'd probably use it but i'm sure most people on here would want to change all 4 tyres on the off chance :p

So took it to Kwik Fit to get it replaced and he basically talked me out of it. Of course he has to 'advise' I change it but because it's not deep enough into the rim protector it won't have any negative effect unless that spot is hit again etc etc. Nice when people are honest!
Now to get to work on sorting my alloy, you can't see much of the damage in the photo as most of it is half way up the 'spokes'. Coincidentally the street she lives on has very high curbs, I'll be scouting them out for missing chunks next time we go round!
**** happens I guess!

Really surprised Kwik Fit of all places would tell you it's fine. Usually they're suggesting repairs for things that don't even need it. I guess your local one is somewhat decent!

How the hell do you literally drive into a curb! Was in the car with my mum the other week and she drove over a curb in a carpark, I was gobsmacked. I think everyone has curbed an alloy slightly when parallel parking in a rush but Jesus.

I would replace that tyre just for peace of mind, could have a blowout on the motorway.

Ive only driven into a curb once, when avoiding hitting a ped who ran out in front of me. Ballsed up the alloy but the tyre was OK.

No idea how you could do it to that extent and not notice though, it was loud and very very obvious when I did it... And indeed I'm not sure how you could do it to that extent at all if you're paying attention.

She was probably texting/doing her make-up/changing CD's and wont fess up to it. :p

I'll get it changed next month but can't afford it this month really.
I'm pretty amazed the bodywork around the wheel arch wasn't nicked!

He has to advise to change for a good reason, you don't know what happened (neither does she by the sound of it) the tyre could well be weakened and thus run a higher risk of a blowout.

Not worth taking a chance on one of the four things that keeps you on the road being potentially damaged, I'd replace it.

Tbh I'm very surprised he talked you out of it, the tyre is probably fine but is it worth chancing it?

Must've had a fair whack off a nice, hard granite curb there. I'd be livid, but I've done as bad to my own rim before :(

I wouldn't be letting her near it again lol.

I wonder how much of a hammering the gearbox and clutch got also :P

Erm... Surely she is paying?

Haha. She's offered to pay but I'll probably end up just covering it myself as they do stuff for us as well (them working in events has its perks!).
As above forgive and forget now that I've calmed down.
