Thanks for finding that article and autobild results. The conclusion in the article is exactly what everyone says. Running your tyres down to 1.6mm is downright dangerous. Even 3mm starts struggling, but as a rule its a pretty good cut off.

Better change tyres at 5mm then, as proportionally the jump in lost performance from 5mm->3mm is probably worse than the jump from 3mm->1.6mm

From that link, both the aquaplaning and 120km wet braking test show a bigger drop off from 5-3mm, than from 3mm to 1.6mm

Fair enough, that is true. I suspect the drop from 1.6mm to 1mm is smaller still?
