Tyres for the 328

Find that pic you've got of your brakes. I'm 99% certain they weren't RE050's.

Good idea mate! - Give us a mo.....

Whilst PS2s aren't available PE2s are and they are pretty highly rated by most for decent wear/grip ratio.

I think RE050 replaced the RE040. A good dry tyre.

You've got Turanza's in one of the pics though, a good budget tyre:p

IIrc, the Turanza's were on the front, the 040's on the rear, for "budget" tyres, the car handled superbly. :)

I know nothing about tyres really, other than the car currently has ditch finders on the rear and some decent brand but crap tyres on the front.

I'm mostly after decent grip in the wet and dry, longevity would be a bonus, but in fairness I won't be using the car every day (just random weekends) so the main issue is grip. :)

Now I've been recommended lots of different tyres and I'm stumped as to what to get, so far I've been told to get...

Bridgestone Potenza RE 050 A
Goodyear EAGLE F1 GS-D3
Falken FK-452
Toyo PROXES T1-R

I need them in 225/50 R16 and looking at a max of about £100 a corner before fitting which I think is a fair budget really, but I don't want to skimp on tyres.

The F1s I understand will wear quickly, but grip well (at least on lighter cars they do), and the others I haven't heard much about really, just had them suggested.

Kumho represents a good premium tyre which I've used on my roadcars frequently over the years. I think they would stand you around 70 to 80 pounds a corner for (KU31 92 V) in that size. A nice all round tyre in my experience, quiet too. Very progressive and communicative grip (much like Eagles but without the wear rate) which would suit the passive steer geometry under load/roll arrangement of an e36's rear.

Far as I can see though any half decent rubber will be happy on a 328 bar only the Toyo's which I think with the weight index vs performance factor will wear quickly. They are super grippy. Its that old equation of grip vs wear.

O/T: You not got the e30 started then?

I have Kumho ecsta of some description on the front of my 328 and uniroyal rainsports on the rear. seem briilliant so far. Did have the kumho all round but had a puncture and tyre place wanted £200 for a matching kumho, was cheaper to buy 2 new tyres.

I like the Re050a, now granted I drive a fwd car, but they seem to last ages, nigh on 20k, which isnt bad considering the big lump upfront:p and me!

But I find them a bit rubbish in the wet, the Dunlop Sportmaxx I had were much better in the wet tbh, but its really worth looking on the BMW OC, that will give you the best idea on whats best for that particular car.

Thread fails, I thought this was about Ferrari's.

'My' other 328, happy? :p

Hmmm, I don't want them to last absolutely ages, I want them to grip in the wet, as the Infinitys don't appear to...but that could have been partly due to being under inflated and my not being used to rwd.

The e36 coupe forum is pants, everyone has a different opinion, and most are too lazy to post, which is why I headed here after they were useless. :p

I was in the same situation, so i decided to rid myself of the 225/50/16 wheels and get some M3 wheels.

Now I can get PS2's.

I'm not running anything yet, I've got some Style 24M's (e36 M3 EVO wheels), and will be putting on Michelin PS2's in 245/45/R17 (rear) and 225/40/R17 (front).

They currently have some utterly garbage mix of unknown rubber and P6000's.

My current Style 25's are the same as yours 225/50/R16, and have Potenza's (RE040) on at the moment, which I didn't like at all.

Nice. I wouldn't mind some 17s, but to be honest it'd be too hard to source some in a style I'd like so I'm going to have to stick with the Style 42s.

I've had good luck sourcing bits recently, just managed to score a full set of ///M rubbing strips (saloon = rare) for the grand sum of £0.

Now my car has the full ///M kit (bar the wing mirrors, which I won't be doing anyway) :)

You've stolen all the good e36 bits. :( :p

I can't see any 17"s on either ebay or e36coupe.com. Ideally I'd like the BBS split rims from the sports, but obviously they are hard to source.

Mostly though I seem to be able to find what I'm looking for. :)

I'm now still no clearer as to what tyres to get mind. :/

I rate the RE050's, mine seem/seemed more than grippy enough and lasted bloody ages (30k rear/40k front) :)
