Front tyres, probably just about beyond their best now ;)

Mind you, that's about 12,000 road miles and 11 trackdays on those!

Spent pretty much all of yesterday driving around like a lunatic on an airfield, getting tuition and trying all sorts of things.

I'm pretty comfortable with left foot braking now, also using clutch dips, handbrake and all kinds of other useful stuff. I think the impression is "driving like I stole it" :D

Clutch dips are where you dip the clutch, press the throttle, release the clutch quickly while moving, this should cause the rear wheels to spin up instantly.

Also for U bends, jamming it in first to create a huge amount of engine breaking to spin you around on a sixpence.

It was a Lotus on Track day at North Weald.

Generally on road use , Muncher how is the VX on tyres, I heard from one dealer that I was looking at a LY, that they wear the insides due to the setup ?

Relatively good, on standard alloys though there is only one tyre that fits, the best price I have found anywhere (and have looked a lot!) is £460 for a set + fitting.

For road use, I guess 25k for the fronts, 12k for the rears. It all depends how you drive. Yes the insides do wear slightly more but depends on the setup you use (many cars are far from setup correctly from Lotus), it's not a great deal in wear difference across the tyre really.

The Potenzas are reasonably hard wearing and the car is so lightweight wear is pretty much dependant on the way you drive.

sounds remarkably like clutch kicking , only more gentle ;) works well with turbos but not good for the clutch itself :D

040's should be banned, they feel like they're made of plastic, I can't wait to get rid of them on the CTR, get some decent rubber on there.

I hope that you didn't drive home on those ;)

North Weald does tend to give tyres a bit of a kicking, planning on doing a fair bit more damage to mine next weekend :D

Agreed, i hated them. Got 010's now.
 
Thats bad news about the 040`s i have a set of Potenza Re04s in the garage waiting to be fitted maybe , ebay is a better idea.

RE050A's are considered in the top 3 tyres available (which include Eagle F1's and Pilot Sport 2's). You must have the A on the end for them to be the bottykicker version.

Ahh right, thanks. :)

MyTyre do the RE050A's for £136 each and F1's for £152 each. I would have got them done at Costco for the hassle freeness, but not paying £190 a tire :mad:.

Just had a pair of Pilot Sports fitted to the front at Costco (the fronts are cheaper), but realised that I need a new pair of rears too when the car was up on the lift.

My question is, what sort of mileage should I be getting out of the RE050A v F1's. This will be the deciding factor for me.
 
This site (although American) has some very thorough reviews. The Dunlop SP Sport Maxx has pinched the number one slot from Good Year which is quite interesting. Dad has some of these and the grip is pretty good on his Astra which had phenomenal wheel spin if booted on his previous tyres.:eek: :o. It seems better now with some better rubber on the rims. Might have to get a set for the Audi if they're no more than Eagle F1's.

Looks like the F1's and Michelin's are just ever so slightly better than the Bridgestones.

EDIT: YAY! £69 each for SP Sport Maxx. £3.90 more than F1's. Job done. :cool:
