U2 - No Line On The Horizon

yeah i hear that about the ticket prices, i still think the only sure way you will get a ticket is to pay $50 for a year U2 subscription on the web site with access to the pre sale.

Thanks. Been looking online today myself. I would see them anywhere to be honest and I can bet my wife would love to see them in Vegas later in the year :D

So what's the best way to get hold of tickets as and when they're released? I don't really want to join U2.com although I will if I have to.

buddy if i remember 2005 it was a mad rush and all my mates missed out, i was lucky to get in on the pre sale. being a member is the BEST way of getting them. $50 get you some free stuff as well as a years membership. so check it out if you def want good seats and wanna be there, otherwise it's in the hands of ticketmaster and ebay

Roger that! I'll join up :D

what vocal problems? his voice on 'Moment Of Surrender' was recorded in one take and that sounds amazing vocal wise.

U2 will always change but stay the same....... you can't expect them to rock out punk routed rock albums like they did in the eaarly 80's, but for sure any fan will hear the riffs and sounds of the early u2 flowing through the album.

Yes, but compare to what he was and to what he is now, it's weak. There is actually a posts on forums running for 100+ pages discussing his voice. It's bad. After the throat surgery in '98 he had trouble hitting the notes. Even Maire from Clannad had to cut his guest performances for "In a Lifetime" on her tour since he cannot hit the high notes anymore. She is using Brian Ferry instead. I've seen two decent live vocal performances from Bono the past 8 years. The last concert I was, people started booing in my section due to his inability to hit the proper notes.

Listened to various tracks from the album a few times now - it's going to be a grower. There's a few distinct tracks that immediately stand out, but the others will take some time. Q gave it 5 stars, and said it was the best album ever!

Tour dates announced on Monday apparently. Looking forward to it. Saw them in 2005 last, want to see them again.

Best Album ever? I think Joshua Tree will have something to say about that.

that's crazy talk man, i have heard these stories, but it's not the case, it's hardly like bob dylan.... lets be fair he's knocking on 50 now, he's not gonna be what he was, but i bet they still get best live show in every award going this time next year. As for the album well i know they get tweaked but his voice is faultless track three is a prime example and one of a hatful that was recorded in one take. He sounded ok on BBC and on Good Morning America too.

I don't buy into all this talk about his voice, he's just getting older and like everything stuff deteriorates a little

i also can't picture any U2 fan booing - they are like the best live act going and i'm a big Bruce Springsteen fan :)

Yes, but as people point out, he hits incredible notes in the period of 84-89, with Achtung Baby in '91 cracks start appearing. Bono himself said it's as if he got psychedelic bugs on his vocal cords after the '89 Love Town tour. Through the 90's he had an incredible falsetto and baritone in the later 90's.
I agree, he will off course deteriorate as he ages, but early U2 fans like myself will probably always be stuck in the War, October, Unforgettable Fire, JT and Rattle and Hum era with Bono being able to scream the roof off a stadium. These days he sings much more relaxed and within his range without pushing like he did in the 80's.

Oh, and those forums (http://u2.interference.com/ ... for example) actual vocal coaches dissect and discuss his voice as it is now. Yes, people get that technical :D

Good stuff on being a Boss fan. Aren't we all? Even if we don't know it yet!

Bono's voice on the last leg (5) of the Vertigo tour was the best shape his voice has been in since the ZooTV era. Ask anyone on the u2 interference site and they will tell you this also. If you still don't believe it, download some of the bootlegs from u2start.com - some good shows are the 2006 sydney shows, Saitama Japans ones and the Honolulu, Hawaii. He hits a lot of notes even his 80's voice couldn't hit (notably the "wide awakes" during the song Bad - he always struggled with those during the Joshua Tree tour).

i dunno really we can all dissect anything in life, i can honestly say i have not notcied a voice issue, but i do take on board the comments, i remember hearing 'sometimes you can make it on your own' in 2005 and man did he play that well, loud and live

Btw, I completely agree his voice was great on this latest album. Just to be clear, I was saying that those who believe Bono's voice is getting worse are in actual fact wrong. The last leg of the Vertigo tour was one of Bono's strongest vocal deliveries in his whole career as a rock singer.

If you actually read through the majority of threads, the consensus is that his voice is shot. I've been a member there for 4 years now. However, there is agreement now that he got some of his power back since the last leg of the Vertigo tour as you said. He will never get the lower registers back, that is a fact. I do remember reading years ago that Edge and band threatened to kick Bono out if he didn't shape up his singing. From Pop to Atomic Bomb he struggled. We can argue until the cows come home since it's all subjective to taste.

I know what you mean, there is a certain quality he has lost I will admit that. All I meant was the way his singing now is much healthier than what he was doing in the past (such as screaming) and you probably know that. To be fair, the things he's done over the years and still does, don't really help him, like smoking like a trooper for example - he so needs to kick the habit. :/

i just see it as his voice has changed as the band has. we all lover era's of music, but the fact is if U2 had not changed then they would be in the same league as Level42 or someone else who failed to evolve with the times, they needed to put different albums out there, i was not a fan of zooropa or pop. but they have to go away to come back, for me they have nailed 3 sweet albums in a row now. (got an email about the pre tour sales) sweeeeet
