Uber eats do you ever tip

Just checked the JE app and, for the exact same order, prices have went up 17.5% since the same point last year.

I think they need to look at how they calculate inflation because it feels like everything I buy has went up significantly more than 9% :(
Hilarious 'username in misunderstanding how own name works' misunderstanding. ISN"T INFLATION JUST A PUNITATIVE TAX I ASK @Pudney (it is not, forgive me).

Never used food delivery services and after reading this thread never will. Thanks folks!

Because inflation is reflective of a stupid measure of averages rather than the things which people buy most often.

"Real" inflation is significantly higher than 9%

It's an average of things people buy most often..... of course its an average so your personal inflation could be higher or lower but that is how averages work.

I remember reading an article when inflation increases were first hitting the news, and one big problem they revealed was that by not tracking the very basic food items which had substantially increased in price (over and above the inflation rate) it skewed the view for the poorer end of society.

For example they looked at the cheapest bag of pasta you could buy last year which you'd have gotten for around 20p, this year manufacturers weren't making the basic brand, but the next one up, which was now costing 60p a bag. Which people will have had to buy as there's no cheaper alternative - that price hike is considerably higher than the inflation rate.

The official list is here if anyone is interested: https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/infl...erpriceinflationbasketofgoodsandservices/2022

I do tip sometimes, but not very often. We had also some unpleasant situations with them and had to contact ubereats customer service number by link. Of course in this causes i don't give any tips but leave a complaint instead. When the order comes on time and without any mistakes i can give leave couple of backs extra of course. Ah yep, when the driver is friendly too, that's an important point.

doesn't inflation compound, but I'd never tip.

Do you tip the postman too? what about courier drivers? seems they are always "self employed" these days which is why they are so crap now and would rather skip delivering to your address if they can't find it within 5 seconds

No, mainly because they're flipping useless and I end up sitting on the phone with them for 10 minutes telling them to just drive down the road they're on. I'm trying to avoid human interaction!

My postcode on all the major mapping services (Google, Waze, Apple Maps etc) puts the destination pin right at the end of my driveway. Yet I've had JE/UE drivers (and Hermes/Evri, separate issue) tell me they can't find the address.

Fair enough so it's gig economy stuff then? I've only ordered once and they turned up in some beaten up old diesel. Hard to imagine that is viable now.

One of the local delivery guys got caught last week. No licence/insurance/MOT. Car matched description of several bilkings & as far as UE were concerned he was using a bicycle to deliver.

The last one apparently is common fraud because they don't have to submit vehicle documents for UE to check.

As for tipping, no I don't. If you didn't agree a pay-rate that's sustainable to your needs then that's between you and your employer.

I don't use UE. But as far as tipping goes I have mixed feelings. I do tip in restaurants and when I had pizzas delivered and would tip to help the delivery person. But I feel I shouldn't have to subsidise a companies salary. The company should be paying a fair rate in the first place.

They should be, and to make it viable delivery costs would be a lot higher. But what we have is a race to the bottom instead. I never tipped, but when I was younger when we got a takeaway delivered my mum used to make me tip them and she justified it as.... 'so next time they don't spit in our food'

When I'm in the US, yes. In the UK, no. I'm glad to come back home because like Inferno says, it's bloody mental over there. Actually stresses me out, lol.
