Ubisoft Points the Finger at AMD For Technical Bugs in Assassins Creed Unity

TotalBiscuit is using a couple of high end Nvidia card in a new uber-rig, and he slated the game so much he couldn't even get it stable enough to review, so I doubt it's an AMD problem. And there's also been a lot of issues with the console versions too.

Ubisoft 'wrapping up' Unity patch with PC performance fixes

QUOTE:

"In case you missed the memo, Assassin's Creed Unity has had a rough launch. The game is apparently riddled with glitches, and many users are complaining about poor performance on the PC.

Happily, Ubisoft announced today that it's "wrapping up" work on the next patch, dubbed Patch 2, which will iron out some of the kinks in the PC release. In Ubisoft's words:

Note, the PC version of Patch Two will include a number of additional fixes, including graphical problems, such as flickering issues with nVidia SLI and AMD CrossFire configurations and improved performance in cinematic mode on low HW configurations, among others.

Some user have complained about frame rates dipping under 30 FPS during cut scenes. I assume that's what the "improved performance in cinematic mode" will address.

Patch 2 will also fix gameplay bugs, crashes, and delays in accessing the main menu upon launch. Ubisoft says players can look forward to no longer randomly fallling through geometry or getting stuck in hay carts. Hooray! Truly, we live in the golden age of gaming."

Ubisoft are getting a lot of bad press over this, and deservedly so, and they are reacting to it, going on the defensive.

This is all good, i don't care about AC, not my kind of Game, But FC4 is a game i do want.

With a bit of luck they will put some work into that before releasing it as a result of the bad press.

This game is far more demanding than Black Flag, that I could run maxed out with TXAA 4x 1080p (before the physx patch) on a single 780 Ti, 3770k and maintain close to 60fps the majority of the time.

This one however at 1080p, maxed out on ultra high with TXAA, this puts a 70% load on each GTX 980 during gameplay, and during the cut scenes it's using 90, 95% of both GPU's to just about maintain 60fps.

This game does not look that good to demand that much power.

Ubisoft Will Bring Mantle-like Performance Boost To All Platforms Thanks To New Renderer Architecture In ACU

A couple of days ago, we had the pleasure of interviewing Ubisoft’s Pipeline Technical Director, James Therien, who shared with us some interesting new information about the new Assassin’s Creed game. As you may have guessed, we asked James whether the PC version of ACU will be better optimized than its predecessor, to which James said that ACU packs a new render architecture that will scale well on multi-CPUs and will bring Mantle-like performance boost on all platforms.

As James told us when we asked him about ACU’s multi-CPU support:

“Globally, our engine scales very well to multiple cores. Unfortunately, we hit different bottlenecks on different platforms. Traditionally, on higher-end PCs, we would be graphic driver bound, negating the benefits of having more cores. On ACU we completely changed the renderer architecture to drastically reduce the number of draw-calls we make to the driver. You should see much more scalability on ACU.”

Naturally, we also asked James whether Ubisoft was interested in Mantle as that API would further reduce draw-calls. As James told us, Ubisoft has been hard at work rewriting its low-level renderer in order to bring Mantle-like performance boosts on all platforms.

“As I said, we totally rewrote the low-level renderer for ACU. One of the reasons is to deal with the same types of issues that are solved with Mantle and DX12. We’re finding ways to push the hardware to its limits.”

Our full interview with James will go live later this week, so stay tuned for more!

Just seen the ingame shots of the missing faces on characters, HA, reminds me of a film called "they live" with Roddy Piper.
Sorry to go of topic, but i watched that the other night on some obscure sky channel. Hot rod Roddy piper. A film so bad it was good, bit like sharknado.

Lets hope so humbug but this is Ubisoft and this is why I always give it 6 to 12 months before I buy any game they produce.

Some of the early reviews of fc4 seem to be pretty good, iirc joystiq gave it 4.5/5, but its Achilles heel will be PC performance and will we have to wait 10 months to get multi card working :p

AMD were snappy with the ACU support, so lets hope they repeat it for FC4.

Update on Performance Issues
As previously reported on the Assassin’s Creed Live Updates Blog, our team is furiously working to resolve bugs and performance issues for Assassin’s Creed Unity on all platforms. On PC, some media outlets have misinterpreted a forum post indicating that we were working on resolving issues that were AMD-specific. We apologize for any confusion and want to be clear that we are working with all of our hardware partners to address known issues that exist across various PC configurations. We care deeply about a smooth and enjoyable Assassin’s Creed experience and we will continue to update customers as these issues are fixed via the AC Live Updates Blog.

Just a couple of bugs.:p

At least they have identified a fair few and on it.

lol same, im glad i have not bought this game, i will buy it when or "IF" they fix performance issues.

but i hope Far Cry 4 is fine on release as i am wanting to buy that asap!

Things are looking much better for Farcry 4. It seems to be running great on the Ps4 which bodes well for at least having a playable game on the PC unlike Assassin's creed unity which is all over the shop no matter what you play it on.
