Ubisoft Uplay is utter rubbish

Things are in a bad state, when people are thankful for DRM systems allowing them to play games that they paid for, even when they have no internet connection. You know that if you didn't bother paying for these games, you would be able to play them hassle free, anytime, internet or not?

+1 I understand why some people seek or use alternative methods to play the games as they wish without all the constraints placed upon them but that's another thing.

Uplay for me has been ok, the only thing I find awful are the download speeds 200 to 350 kbp compared to 4.5 to 5 meg steam

The Steam version of U-Play has been fine for me.

Have a few games using it, I do wish they would share Steam achievements and allow sharing of friends though.

Never used the full client.

I kinda like uplay for couple reasons:
1) I never had a problem with it
2) It allowed me to redeem my retail boxed games (Assassins Creed 2/Bro/3/FarCry 3/Ghost Recon) so now I do not have to use discs and can download it from Ubi servers anytime, steam style.

Obviously if I could redeem those boxed copies on steam, that would be even more preferable, but still, uplay is better than nothing. I hate dealing with discs these days.

Uplay is getting much better lately they have a lot of new features coming out soon & are starting to add any games you own regardless of where bought from to your account so you can download from Uplay in future.

Its way less intrusive than Steam/Origin IME.

Only used it once, for Assassin's Creed 2. I seem to remember it was a bit of a pain to set up, and once I got into the game it wouldn't work properly with a controller, all the buttons were mis-mapped.

Decided life was too short and just uninstalled the whole thing.

I’d rather not have to use uplay but never really had a problem with it aside from slow download. I was slightly confused as to why my steam uplay games did not appear when I logged into uplay directly, but that’s been answered here.

It would be better if it allowed you to make a back up of the installers from within the application. I have Far Cry 3 and just after installing I needed to do a Windows re-install and had backed up the game not the installer. Steam is easier in this area and Uplay needs to sort it out. It meant I had to download the entire game online again which was a pain in the ass.

Bumping this as am finding UPlay to be a stinking pile of dog poo :(

Got splinter cell in the nvidia bundle and every time i try to start he game I get hit with the same long ass update which I need to download and install. Every single time. By the time it's done I've lost the will to play, thinking ok it's done now I'll play it tomorrow then hit with the same thing..

Not to mention every time you start uplay it take ages searching for updates for the program itself.

What a pile of ****

Gotta say uplay is utter rubbish
had to download farcry 3 ,3 times now(although i finished the game without problem, first time)
splintercell blacklist works ok but tries to patch evertime i load the game
it seems downloads/patches go to different places, ive never had problems downloading /patching on steam or origin
Also there support is slow
i only use u play as the games i have were free with graphics cards i have purchased other than that i steer well clear

I've just been through a nightmarish hour with this steaming pile of reptile crap.

Took me over an hour to get AC2 up and running as the game files refused to download. Then the client started patching. And crashing. And patching. Crashing. I gave up eventually and grabbed it off a torrent site.

My lord, hear me. I'll never ever ever ever spend another penny on a game requiring Uplay to run. Ever ever.

Cant say i mind it - i like some of the features that they have added. Certainly not had any problems with it.

Same, although had a problem here and there but nothing major. Sometimes the server was down in Anno and I couldn't get Ark benefits, or patching speeds were really slow. But generally it's pretty solid I find.

Been using it since it came out for my collection of Ubisoft games and I must admit I have had zero issues with it. It has always worked well, despite the fact that the ingame overlay could be a bit better.

I just don't see the point in it. What does it offer that Steam doesn't?

I don't want to have to have a different games client installed for every single different developer that exists.

Nor do I. I've got Steam and held my nose to install Origin. Nothing else.

so if I were to purchase black flag from Steam, would I need to install this application?

I also want to know this
It should auto-install. I already had uPlay installed on my machine however it was hugely outdated. Upon running Black Flag it told me that uPlay was outdated and will be updated to the latest version.

Going by this it seems a detection routine is in place so it will most likely install uplay if it is absent from your system.
