UEFA Champions & Europa League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [12th - 14th April 2022]

I remember Salford going to Huddersfield in the super league and the players ended up getting involved in a fight in the crowd lmao. Gentleman's game though ofcourse.

And a finger in the arse doesn’t happen every week, I have seen it reported once, much like the gazza incident

We shouldnt use Paul Gascoigne as a barometer when it comes to football considering he's an absolute scumbag.

Only after an Atletico game could we be discussing sticking a finger up someone's arse :D
Aye, absolutely horrible team, it only seems to happen when there playing an English club though, I only tend to watch the English teams though, but I never seem to read about them being ***** when they get knocked out by PSG or someone like that

LMAO

The Physio was struck off lol.

12-month ban for the player. 3 year ban for the Director of Rugby, two year ban for the physio. Club doctor was suspended.

Obviously bad eggs and rash moments in both sports, but there is a culture of respecting the referee in rugby that I would love to see in football.....but I believe the argument is that footballers are overly emotional children that can't control themselves or some nonsense.

Surprised tbh the City game was carried on a goal less draw. As I said they would win it every year if they only had to play foreign clubs. Those injuries might cost them.

Consolation prize would be to see VR win it, with that manager who was clueless and not good enough for Arsenal.

Same with NFL refs, and when I played American Football here in the UK. Only the 4 captains on the team could speak to the ref's, and your sentence always started with Sir.
Absolutely, all it takes is the ref to go into both dressing rooms before the game and say he won’t accept any sort of disrespect and then follow through doing the game, even if the game ends 9v9. it won’t take long for managers to get a grip of players if 2 or 3 are getting sent off per game.
We all love football here but some people need to take the blinkers off and realise that it’s currently played by a bunch of thugs and bellends that think they they are above reproach.

Youre assuming people dont think that just because they are pointing out that other sports are similar lol. They do treat the ref with respect in Rugby, its just shame they dont treat each other like that. When was the last time you saw a footballer throw a punch? Happens all the time in rugby.

I agree that football could be much better but its a completely different sport to Rugby. The rules are generally much simpler to enforce in Rugby and niggly cheating is not encouraged or easy to do. In Rugby you can try and send a guy to hospital if he ****** you off and people will say "good tackle" if its legal, you can't do that in football. There is a reason you see so many stupid yellows for players who have just been fouled and want to get their own back after the ref does nothing.

The crowds at football matches are completely different to Rugby. Its much more intimidating and like a cauldron.

Easiest thing they could do is to say that only the captain can speak to the referee and any player who comes steaming in after an incident gets a yellow. It would stop quite quickly but it will never happen. Fans love the drama, especially on the continent and they love the aspect of the game which involves cheating, getting any small advantage they can and influencing the referee is a big part of that.

No, it doesn't. It's incredibly rare, maybe once every few seasons in the professional game. It's a straight red and a long ban from the game.

Respecting the ref is hammered into rugby players from day at minis level, all the way through schools to international level. Only the captain speaks to the ref. Anyone else approaching or remonstrating with the ref goes to the bin.

I don't think it would work in football, because it would require a complete ground-up change to the culture of the sport from grassroots level.....and all the immature 'passionate' continental players would end up down to six or seven players every international tournament.

Don't be jealous because we play probably the best highline in world football, you lot will be able to aswell in about 5 seasons :D

The goals scored from those offside decisions beg to differ my friend :p

Just made me think that before VAR, that would have ended without a single goal for Benfica or with Liverpool potentially going out if it was a different linesman.

The AM/City game could also be a massive boon for Liverpool with De Bruyne going off injured.
