UEFA Champions & Europa League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [12th - 14th December 2023]

Ok you're just trolling, completely ignoring my points. I love how you say me claiming recruitment isn't on ETH is laughable and then go on to agree that he should have a better recruitment team above him :D

And no that isn't why they were banned, again more trolling. We have negative media stories against us every week for decades, do you seriously think that would make them ban them lol?

Hmm Eddie refused to answer a few questions on the fitness of some of the players. Karius could start as Dubs has been carrying a knock. Longstaff and Gordon missing from training.

Wilson doing press duties so looks like he might start. Will be an interesting team selection.

I’m expecting a loss tonight and fully out of Europe.

And I won’t be too upset by that.
Unless we keep progressing in Europe even in the other competitions we will keep getting into group of deaths.

Constant top 4-6 in the league to get into Europe and we have to keep doing well to earn those points.

Also the financial side of things :D

I wondered when the "trolling" shouts would come lmao.

"Manager who signs his own targets who turn out to be duds isnt to blame because of xyz reason" utter nonsense. Its still on him Shami, hes the manager, he pulled the trigger.

Im sure the media outlets being banned were just a complete coincidence Shami.

Side question. Have you ever had a discussion where you havent accused someone trolling?

Try learning how to have an actual discussion where you address the other person's points and questions rather than just creating strawmen. As I said, if it is just media creating negative stories then why haven't the other 7 billion negative stories about the club led to bans? Why are you completely ignoring the completely legitimate reason the club gave in their statement? I've asked you multiple times who we should get in to replace him and you've not given a single name.

The fact you keep coming back to blaming ETH for transfers while simultaneously agreeing that a manager shouldn't be completely responsible for transfers shows your agenda. If we didn't have a medical department and he was the one that had to be treating players would you blame him for that too? You're either trolling or you're being exceptionally ridiculous.

Have to say, the effort from the lads last night was pretty good, we are just far too clueless all over the pitch. There just isn't enough intentional movement of the team. Thats on EtH and his coaching staff at this point.

Hes spent poorly and we don't have a team that looks like its moving in any direction. Injuries have caused us a lot of issue but there still isn't that kernel of progress you would want to see.

Have a bad feeling for us tonight, however AC have not won away in the group so far, hoping the home fans can give us the boost we need. We need a good start and to get ahead as the last 30 minutes of recent games we've been abysmal.

Over achieved last season
False sense of progress
Failure of the club to move on "dead wood"
Less than 50% success rate on signings
Significant injury crisis
Inability to get players to follow instructions
24/7 scrutiny of the world's footballing press and clickbait reporting

It's the world of the elite manager and if we are honest EtH is falling short in a lot of areas. Not all his fault and I still see little value in a change at this period. He has to have the full season but I expect a lot more pain in the interim. The only good news is that despite our demeanour the quest for a CL spot next season is not yet a forlorn one.

Just back from the barbers with the hair and beard trimmed, tucking into a sausage roll and feeling pampered.

We ******* smash them!!!

Come on!!

I think it is more of a case that ETH wanted targets but our recruitment team is totally inept and he panicked and brought in players he knew that would help implement the way he wants to play. Obviously we overpaid greatly for that. I know it is like beating a dead horse but injuries have buggered us. Especially Martinez and to some degree Casemiro. There were reports that ETH went over everyone else and was in contact with certain agent to get players in. When you are having to resort to that as a Manager then there are obvious issues above him.

Martinez is integral to how we need to play because then Varane can go on the right. With him missing it just messes up the whole spine. We have to sit a lot deeper to allow for Maguire, Evans, Lindelof etc.

If ETH makes it to the summer (I personally hope he does) and gets the support he needs.

There needs to be a major clearout of the ones that want to fight and the ones that do not.

Rashford, Sancho, Martial need the axe without question. Rashford was always connected to that J Lingz and Pogba love triangle and Sancho is in that click too.

Manager should always be the boss and who ever doesn't tow the line needs to be gone imo. Erik Ten Hag is the fastest Ajax manager to 100 wins and the fastest United manager to 50 wins. You don't do that by being a bad manager.

An elite manager at this level shouldn't be "panicking" when it comes to transfers.

On ETH, at what point do you think he needs to be shown the door? Give him the rest of the season?

Panicking depends on the context. The whole setup at United is diabolical. Maybe he made mistakes but they are choices and decisions he shouldn't have needed to be making because the people above him were sleeping on the job.

Fergie was a special breed. He could do everything and that is why it left a massive hole when he left. Klopp and Guardiola are top coaches but not true managers in the old fashioned way. They have the fantastic support above them. This is something where United is simply rubbish at.

You put Klopp or Guardiola at United and the result will be the same.

ETH needs the rest of the season and the support to do what he wants. If United try and keep Sancho somehow that is when you know he has lost and it is over. If they can't get him gone in January then just pay out his contract and get rid. That would be a statement of support to the manager.

Surely the point here is that the problems are everywhere, not in one particular area.

The Glazers have run the club horribly, appointed all the wrong sporting people, thrown transfer money around without any sort of plan, and neglected a lot of key areas of the club. Ultimately they are responsible for the failures, like any company owner would be.

But, question marks also have to be asked of the manager. He's shown very little in terms of coaching or tactics to suggest he's anything other than average. If we sacked him tomorrow I doubt any other PL club would be rushing to appoint him. At any other big club he'd be facing the sack. There's some sort of Fergie-based romanticised view that if you give a manager time, he'll come good. Very rarely is that the case.

And then there's the players, even in an ideal setup, most of them are nowhere near good enough.

We just need INEOS to come in and start to fix these issues, I hope they can...

panicking was probably the wrong word to use but i'm pretty sure you know what the poster meant in the same way you know what shami meant. so that leads to the conclusion that you're either trolling or being intentionally obtuse in order to get a rise out of ManU fans. good work though, you've managed to get a few to bite.

but lets ask a question again you've previously ignored a number of times - who do you replace eth with? who out there comes in and makes a difference. who gets consistency and harmony (if your claims of losing the dressing room are true) in the team. remember though, the crapshow that exists above the manager will still be there. but it'll be interesting to see who you suggest and why.

So, do these results pretty much mean that our chance of having a 5th Champions League slot is gone for next season now as our "score" will be knackered ?
