UEFA Champions & Europa League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [25th - 27th October 2022]

What is the rule for when the ball is played backwards? Would you still need to be behind the ball? It comes forwards from the Sporting player because the header wasn’t going to Kane anyway.
Kane still needs to be behind the ball but no idea on it hitting the player if that changes it. Think the Spurs players just said this, is it a new phase?

For offside it doesn't matter where the ball goes unless the defender intentionally plays it. Attacker must be behind the ball.

So if Spurs lose, Sporting and Frankfurt draw it ends up three teams on 8 points.

H2H is normally the decider first but is it with 3 team? I think Sporting hold the best H2H

Where is Baz. He normally comes in after actually reading the rules and tells us the decision was stupid but correct. @BaZ87?

What we can say is that the EL is going to be really spicy this year. A lot of good teams are dropping into the EL. Winning the EL will actually be quite the achievement this year now.

Which doesn’t make sense either because when would a player ever intentionally pass it to the opposition who’s standing free in an offside position infront of goal?
It doesn't have to be an intentional pass, it has to be an intentional attempt to play the ball. So if the defender had tried to clear it and mishit it then it wouldn't be offside.

Are they not in the EL because by definition there are not a "good team".

I was going to add that supposition at the end but I thought better of it. :p

Whatever the truth, the likes of Barca, Atletico, Juventus, Tottenham (fingers crossed) will make it more interesting.
