UEFA Champions & Europa League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [4th - 6th March 2025]

Crazy he didn't blow for that offside when our shape was horrendous and couldn't get out with possession and now they have an amazing free kick position

That said, Konate should be off :D

I find it so frustrating they don’t call offside until after the attack, then they didn’t even go back for it and Liverpool lost the ball

It might feel harsh but I don’t think there is any other punishment that can be considered commensurate to the lost chance. The double jeopardy when in the box accounts for the punishment of a penalty but outside, there isn’t that.

I understand the reasoning, double jeopardy was obvs worse but it still isn't a great rule in general. Comes down to good reffing i suppose, whether the opportunity was clear cut and whether the challenge was accidental or deliberate

Because they were not running full pace at the time. Because it was more beneficial to try and stay up. 90% of fouls the player could have stayed on their feet but there is usually little benefit to do that and they are fouls.
So he took a dive then.

I think it’s generally ok to be honest. The fact it happens so infrequently perhaps points to the fact it’s a good deterrent.

You don’t think he was lucky to escape a red and perhaps a marked man with the ref now?
Oh I do yes, but I think that against this amazing PSG frontline Quansah is just as likely to do something badly wrong in the 2nd half, I'd stick with Konate at the moment for this game. I dont think Quansah is yet ready to face someone like Dembele or Kvaratsheila for a match like this. If Konate gets a yellow in the 2nd half I'd immediately swap them though

Nope. It’s not a dive just because you could have stayed on your feet. If you want to play that game then almost every foul in the modern game is a dive.

If you’ve played any team sport where you run at pace you will know that at full speed it doesn’t take much to put you off balance and lose control of the ball.

Yeh probably. But i think a foul (was it outside the box anyway, i didnt see the replay) and a yellow would have been less controversial than the situation we have

Going to need a really good half time talk from Slot to do something against this PSG side, they’re really up for this game….and Diaz off, only really replacement is Chiesa.

Jota has been amazing and our only outlet, except 3 times where he could've given us amazing goal chances :(

Gravy and Macca are having a mare tbh

PSG dominated that but crucially didn't get a goal. Not sure where to start with what needs changed, just can't get a foot on the ball at all and for that reason I'd be tempted to bring Jones on. Nunez for Diaz couldn't be much of a downgrade either after that half, very poor.

Guess you agreed with the Liverpool fans that said it was a pen on Jota then when he fell over a bit after the keeper touched him, can't remember the game now. Think it was last season

I'd take Diaz off push Jota out to the left and put on Nunez because I just have a spidey sense that this game is the sort of match where Nunez will do something absurd and score.
