UEFA Champions & Europa League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [6th - 8th April 2021]

He's always on the windup, you must have learnt that by now.

Solid score but crap game. Perfect example of how a ref can ruin a game by letting one team just kick the crap out of the other.

On the wind up? You just called a ref who gave a none penalty to United corrupt. You slam the refs every single game.

Where did I say he was corrupt

Im on about Shami tbf.

He's calling the ref out as being corrupt all game. Ive said on a number of occasions the decisions arent favouring English sides and the ref LITERALLY shows he isnt corrupt by giving United a soft penalty yet somehow im on the wind up.

The ref was inconsistent for sure. He's just a bad referee but like i said ive seen this a lot this week.

So why quote me then:cry:
So you have no issues with the numbers of fouls committed by Grenada that didn't result in cards compared to the Utd cards:confused:
Pogbas was soft heavy touch and tried to recover McSauces wasn't that bad a tackle. Maguires - Soldado was theatrical to say the least Shaw hardly touched the player Matic jumped for a header and the player made the most of it- not convinced he even touched him. Grenada were leaving feet in all over the pitch or going down dramatically:o

You say it was theatrical but that's how you won a penalty? I'm saying he's a bad referee...I'm hardly winding people up.

Another turgid performance. Clean sheet and away win but awful to watch yet again. Let's be clear United aren't a great side but I do wonder how much is about the tactical organisation of many opponents now and the fear of losing a match which leads to crisis at a club like United. Pogba is clearly a more talented player than McSauce but he was much poorer than Scott tonight. I can't put my finger on it but its just so ordinary. Resilient is about as best you can say about this side at present and whilst I'm tempted to give OGS another transfer window and a proper pre-season I do wonder if we will ever see anything better from him and his coaching staff. I didn't rate Carrick as a player and I'm not convinced about him as a coaching personality, McKenna - dunno enough about him and Phelan is 1990's.
I wonder how boring Sunday vs Mourinho will be?

I have to be honest. I actually fell asleep during the game :p. Glad to see we got two away goals and a clean sheet however. Seems from the comments here that Granada were just going for the physical approach and the ref was just poor.

I agree with Calpol above I think OGS is doing good things but really needs to get the right coaching staff around him. A Europa league win and a second place finish in the league would be an improvement but next season will be crunch time.

Also is Arteta Teflon or what? He gets absolutely no stick what so ever. A couple more draws and losses and he will be below a 50% win percentage which is just plain terrible for an Arsenal manager.

Seriously?

Arteta gets it constantly. If Saka etc can't score easy chances I'm not sure what people can complain about tbh.

Which is why managers should be judged on performances more than results for a number of years.

This is what does my head in about Ole. People point at our league position and points total like it shows that we are progressing well. It doesn't. We are not progressing in the area that matters most. Our performances. We still turn out crap performances more often than not and only ever look comfortable and good when we are playing counter-attacking football or are allowed to run in behind teams.

You have to win when you play poorly if you want to win trophies. Thats a given. You don't win trophies by playing crap most of the time and sneaking goals and shading games. Thats a poor run of luck or a few injuries away from awful results and thats how it feels at United at the moment.

The football hasn't been that great recently. Yes but it is building a solid foundation and the squad is very young. Rome wasn't built in a day and all that. Plus no matter what opposition you have. A quarter final of a European competition is never going to be easy.

People talk about Klopp and his fantastic football but Ole is on track to beat Klopps points total for his second full season on what would appear "dross" football. Get the right players and a good start to the season and we could be serious challengers.

Just need to see if Ole is backed in the summer and makes the right decisions of getting rid of players. Selling Lingard to Westham and offloading Martial would do wonders for securing the funds to get Haaland and a decent CDM.

It's very easy to play turgid football and get more points than those who play 'fantastic' football though. Man U and Jose finished 2nd playing terrible stuff for example.

If you watched the games in the CL over the past few days you will see the gulf in quality between us and those teams. Their movement, passing, pressing etc are all a country mile better than us.

This season is a complete mess and I don't think you can take anything from it. Our points total is meaningless in showing improvement. Who would have bet that Liverpool would go from winning the league with 99 points to looking like missing out on CL entirely. Who would have bet that Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea would all have awful season. Who would have bet on West Ham being in contention for top 4.

If we buy a couple of top class players over the summer I can see us getting top 4 relatively easily next year. Thats it. Thats it and thats entirely due to the strength of our squad.

I think a lot of United fans who think we are doing well at the moment will be scratching their heads next season and wondering what changed and why we aren't doing well. Its pretty obvious. As always however, only time will tell.

We are not playing Turgid football though constantly. We are inconsistent in our great performances. PSG away, RB at home, City away, Liverpool FA Cup have all been performances where we have played well against top team.

Also do not forget the total demolition of Leeds and Southampton even with ten men.

Our most dominant performance this season was against Everton but we ended up drawing that game 3-3.
