UEFA Champions & Europa League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [6th - 8th September 2022]

That penalty against United Jesus, that's one of the worst decisions I've ever seen! It was a rubbish game though and to get beat 0-1 at home against sociedad is terrible, when your boasting one of the world's greatest ever players and 60-80m player here there and everywhere.

United fans have to pray there are no I juries to Varane and Martinez this season.

Those fees mean nothing, those players aren't worth what we paid, the value you used isn't indicative of their skill level. We know Maguire and Fred are crap, Lindelof is average, Casemiro unknown. VdB cost 50m!

Sociedad also best us in Europa didn't they, they have a champions mindset, our club doesn't, hopefully that's changing slowly now.

The fact is, our squad is weak and we will lose matches. You can say we didn't deserve to win because we didn't score but from what I heard we didn't really deserve to lose either.we

I think the aim is to win your home games though.

We probably didn't deserve to lose, but if you don't score in 90 minutes of football then ypu definitely won't win and one bad decision can cause a loss.

It was poor.

Yeah, lot of work still to do at United. That penalty decision was a shocker though. How on earth did that happen. Did VAR check it or did the ref just give it and nothing else happened.

I thought it was a perfectly reasonable penalty. Infact id add it stopped a goal... You know what happens next.

Lol genuinely i thought it was a joke. As someone has said RAWK posters have said it was a disgrace so that says it all

Whether people like it or not, that sort of penalty decision can and will be given in Europe. You only have to think back to the penalty Utd got vs PSG a couple of seasons back to see that UEFA are very strict on any situation where the defenders arms are away from their body. It's only really in the PL where we've toned things down after the start to the 20/21 season when 100 pens were given in the first week.

Very different. The one given against Martinez on Thursday was hit hard from about 2m away from him and hit his leg and then his elbow which was tucked into his body at the time.

The one against PSG was from a bit further away, didn't hit anything before his arm and his arm was away from his body. Even then it was a poor decision and a very soft penalty that shouldn't have been given.

One was a poor decision and the other one was straight up appalling.

The distance and deflection are only mitigating factors. The bottom line is, whether your or I like it, as soon as your arm is away from your body in a UEFA competition then a penalty is always possible.
