UEFA Champions League 22/23 November *** Spoilers ***

They've looked like they can't be bothered for the past few weeks now. It's pretty dire.

I hope it turns around tonight, but I doubt it.

Despite the performances this has been our second best start in Premier League history, personally I find it humorous the butthurt from some rival supporters at us getting these results while not playing well :D

We've looked crap in the group stage for a few years now, I mean just look at this years:

Benfica 1-1 Pretty crap, saved by a moment of genius by Giggs

Basel 3-3 Good start but then just sat off the pedal completely and let them back into it, saved by a last minute goal from Young

Otelul Galati 2-0 Made an absolute meal of it until we got the penalty

Otelul Galati 2-0 Early goal but still played really poorly. A jammy late own goal made it look more comfortable than it was.

Shame I have to work through the Napoli game, biggest of the season so far. Could dictate how we fair in our general fixtures for the rest of the month too. If we win the Bayern game is a show piece, could keep needed freshness for league games. They were so good defensively against us though, I'm not holding my breath. Even with the way we're playing travelling Euro trips are a different kettle of fish, and Napoli are very strong at home in Europe. If we do win tonight however, I wouldn't put it past us to see the semi finals. A draw or loss and we're effectively out of the competition, Napoli won't lose to Villareal and I wouldn't want to put anything on us needing to beat Bayern.

Jesus whept

Firstly you want us to go out of the competition based on the form we're in now? Stupid just stupid :o

Secondly you think Fergies been changing the back 4 just for kicks? Never occurred to you that injuries are playing their part in all the changes?

I'm embarrassed for you I really am :o

EDIT: Oh and easy draws last year? marseille who had beaten Chelsea in the group stage? Schalke that scored 5 in the San Siro against the current holders? What constitutes a hard draw in your naive little world? Again really embarrassed for you.

Got a stick up your ass? Theres always an ******* waiting to reply in this forum. Christ.

I know about the injuries, it would be nice if we didn't have them so we can keep a more consistent team.

It would be nice to get to the final, but be serious, this years its much tougher and we have been rubbish in this years comp.

And what baring does our group stage form have in whether or not we reach the final? Also disagree about the competition being harder this year, there's nothing to suggest that whatsoever.

The only thing tougher about the competition is that we're weaker really.

Hows that? If we get some luck with injuries we'll be up in terms of squad numbers with Welbeck, Jones, Young & Cleverley all improvements on those that may have played last season imo (harsh as it may be I include Cleverley over Scholes in that)

EDIT: I'm reading no Rooney tonight, not even travelled with the squad

Official Team:

GK: De Gea

RB: Fabio

CB: Jones
LB: Evra

RM: Valencia
CM: Carrick
CM: Fletcher
LM: Nani

CF: Young
CF: Berbatov

The Rio/Jones partnership didn't look good against Basel hopefully it does better tonight.

EDIT: Oh and Gibson's back on the bench :D

#MCFC team in Napoli: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Lescott, Kolarov, Milner De Jong, Y. Touré, Džeko, Silva, Balotelli

Shocked to see no Richards or Clichy considering how well they have been playing. Everyone else picks themselves really.

Well weaker in that we're in a transition period trying to bed several new signings in. We have no idea how they'd do in a big semi final/final against decent opposition.

Then the injury troubles mean we have no settled defensive pairing, midfield pairing or attacking pairing.

Edit:

Tbh with that lineup I'd rather have Valencia right, Young left and Nani supporting the striker.

Richards is a particularly odd omission.. figured he'd give us that needed width to get in behind their back line. Huge game for Zaba and Kolarov tonight!

I can't make my mind up wether that would be better or not - purely because I think it would make Nani Mr.Greedy Balls and it'd be more of a hindrance and I think Young will try and slip Berba in more.

Hopefully we get a win.

Richards isn't suited to playing in Europe. Positionally he's still suspect defensively and his bull in a china shop approach to going forward wouldn't go down too well with continental refs.

Quite possibly the reason why he's not getting in the England squad too.

Young's played the support striker position for Villa, to my knowledge Nani's never played there (certainly not for us and I suspect not for Portugal)

I know we never get the best of him out on the left but it still makes sense to play Young there
