Martial has dived but it's still a penalty. You can't grab an attacker in the box and be shocked that it's been given. Karma wise it evened out because the one in the first half should have been a penalty and was ignored.

I agree. It’s a bit like Auba’s in the cup final. He went over easy, but he was being fouled, so penalty no arguments.
 
He grabbed him? Hes barely touched him and hes fallen to the ground. How has he been impeded?

If thats a pen we should be getting 30 a season and i guarentee this forum would be fuming and calling Salah a diver.

That is never a penalty in a million years, that's 2 players touching the same as any freekick/corner, if that's a penalty then football is well and truly ruined as they touch more than that in basketball and that's no contact.

He knows he's behind him so throws himself to the floor, 100% dive and I guess he decided to gamble and won, referee should've booked Martial for simulation.
 
United are set up this season to have Martial, Greenwood and Rashford running at pace straight at defenders in the box. There's been a handful of soft decisions but for the most part they're just straight up being fouled in the box.

No complaints with that penalty. Martial has already beaten the defender, he's done him. You grab the attacker from behind like that in the box it's a penalty every time.

How has he beaten the defender? They are jockeying for the ball and he just falls over. He doesn't grab him...he doesnt pull on his shirt.

Its a dive.

He's pulled his shirt, and clipped his right heel. In the box. From behind. Could Martial have stayed on his feet? Probably, but it's still a penalty.

haha he hits his heal because Martial decided to kick the floor. Where has he pulled his shirt?

That is one of the worst decisions I've seen in some time and i'm part of the "you impede him its a foul" brigade. If that's a certain Egyptian its front page news and this forum are having a field day.

Sorry, as you correctly pointed out initially, he pulls his shoulder, doesn't pull his shirt.

What makes this a clear penalty imo is that Martial has beaten the defender and put them behind him. The second you lay your arms on an attacker from behind in the box, you're going to give away a penalty.

If they were just jostling side by side it would be different, but Martial has done him already.

He hasn't "done" him though? He also doesnt pull on his shoulder...he touches him but it isn't a pull. He's dived.
 
I do love this idea that the reason why Utd have had so many penalties this season is because they're the first side ever to have quick attackers that run with the ball in the box. One stat account on twitter said Utd are averaging a penalty for every 68 touches of the ball in the opposition penalty area, in comparison Arsenal average 859 touches in the box per penalty :D

Utd have just been both incredibly lucky with decisions and have a number of players that will look to go down at every opportunity and in the case of Fernandes and James, they'll create the opportunity to go down too. Take the penalty incident last night, regardless of your views on whether it was or wasn't a foul, how often do forwards throw themselves to the ground like Martial did and when they do, how many times do you see fouls given for that sort of challenge? A decent number of forwards would go to ground but just as many wouldn't and of the ones that do, you're lucky if you get a pen 1 in 20 times however so many of these marginal calls have gone in Utd's favour compared to other sides.

I think they should have had a penalty and missed a good number of chances. I thought a few United players were poor on the night (Bruno included) and could easily have gone against you. Did they deserve to win? Probably not but they were always going to put 11 behind the ball so the possession and shots stat is pretty meaningless imo. They brought a player on who was playing in League one last season...says a lot about the depth between the two sides.
 
The simple fact is, of the penalties we've received only two weren't penalties, and I can easily think of two clear ones we should have been given and weren't (Martial vs Palace first game and Fred vs City where he was even booked for diving!) So the decisions have not gone our way at all. People are just mad because it's United and everyone loves to talk about us, if it was any other club nobody would care. The Fernandes one there were 3 other incorrect decisions that day involving not United and those aren't talked about at all any more, it's almost like there is an agenda...

You also had that Var joke against Everton where De Gea was whacked in the face but the goal given.

I just take it as positive because when people cry about United it means they are starting to worry about the future.

HAHAHA Salah could be taken out around the knee and people here would call it a dive, the daily mail would have him on the front page and he'd be trending for weeks on twitter. Last night Marital dived. Its one thing going down with a pull etc to make sure you get a pen, something im massively behind by the way, but that was just a dive.
