Proud of Arsenal, very proud...didn't expect us to beat Bayern at home but brilliant result seeing as most including me thought we would get royally shafted.
Unlucky we didn't score a third..soo close with the amount of chances we had but again lacking the killer touch in the end. Was very impressed with our defensive play tonight, looked very tight and didn't give Bayern many chances to score.
Went out on away goals..shame we didn't score a second at Emirates in the first round
But hopefully our performance tonight can galvanise the squad and make a final push for a CL place.
Do you mean the 2 shots on 2 shots off we had? Though it depends on the source of stats, I think it was 5 or 6 shots max, Bayern stats range from 17 to 20+ shots.
It was a very good header by Kos, and the early goal was flukey as anything. I don't rate Alaba, both legs he was poor, but it took a massive slip early in the game for Walcott to do anything, the rest of the game he was as usual, ******* awful, though after he went off it was funnily enough Muller that had the biggest Walcott moment, stepped on the ball and fell over
Muller was the only Bayern player who looked like he wanted to win, made crosses and chances out of nothing. Robben looked like he wanted to play but looked really out of form, so many chances he should have scored a few. His best chance came when Gibbs and Mert utterly fell asleep to the blatantly obvious throw in and Jenks did amazingly well to get across and put him off/block half the goal and gave Fab a good chance of saving.
We were poor, we created very few chances, Bayern were terrible, couldn't be arsed and created 20 shots and 4-5 excellent chances, they should have smashed us tonight while they barely bothered to play, I wouldn't call any part of that a good Arsenal performance or anything to be proud of. A team can't be arsed, a stadium of fans that think its a foregone conclusion and are barely awake, and we concede 20 or so shots....
Overall against a team that didn't show up, according to sky we had 2 shots on target, 2 off, 1 corner, and 1 offside, 6 cards a 76% pass completion and conceded 25 fouls with 46% possession.
Bayern, a team that didn't care had 5 shots on, 12 off, 6 corners, 3 yellows, 81% pass completion, conceded 13 fouls and had 55% possession.... a team that didn't even try very hard.....
We got two goals, Gervinho was the next best chance, outside of that nothing at all, we got one lucky as hell goal, one great headed goal and were insanely lucky to not concede. Funny thing is, had we won the first leg 2-0, we'd likely have been utterly demolished in the second leg, thats how football goes. Its a two legged tie, Milan/Bayern won the game(effectively) in the first 90 and didn't care about the second 90, Arsenal lost in the first 90 and cared, tried and failed both times in the second 90. We were the better team for 10 mins, and Bayern looked the most likely to score for the other 80, had the most chances, the most possession, and the best chances.
I'm embarrassed that the only time we can do well in these games, is in a second leg the other team doesn't care about, theres very little to be proud of in that.
