UEFA Champions League/Europa League 12/13/14 April *** Spoilers ***

Before he picked up his injury he was the best right back in the league when Chelsea won the double! Was absolutely raking in the FF points :p

That was the year before, he was injured all last season when you won the double ;)

But why bring him on over Bosingwa? Not only is Bosingwa better, he is an attacking full-back. Ferreira is just pony at everything.

Ferreira's a better crosser of the ball that Bosingwa (I think he's better than Bosingwa full stop actually). Countless times Bosingwa got into crossing positions last week and wasted it.
was crap though, even if you say that it's fair enough to get torres off as he did nothing, I'd have put money on the fact that if we'd been in their position we'd have been bringing on forwards for defenders and shifting other players out wide if needed. It was too conservative, like I said earlier, they took it to us for the first 25 minutes but after that they were pretty well contained.

I'm not defending him, just giving my take on why he did it. Some people were baffled by it but I thought the logic behind it (whether you agreed or not) was clear.

Imo Chelsea have big problems and I don't think there was too much Ancelotti could have done. Essien's got a great engine but his defensive positioning is poor and doesn't create enough going forward, Lampard's age and injuries suddenly look to have caught up with him, Malouda's been **** either side of last season, they've still not found a RB and Cole, Drogba and Anelka aren't getting any younger.

If you were looking to build a squad for the next 5 years, how many of Chelsea's current squad would you look to keep and build around?

Cech
Terry
Ivanovic
Luiz
Cole - but would be looking for a younger replacement soon.
Ramires
Essien
Torres

Other than those, the rest either are simply not very good or at an age where they need replacing.

Great result bring on the final!

Cant help but wonder if hernandez was offside after rooney touched it for the first goal, but still overall think we deserved to go through. Bring on Shalke!

Im sure rooney scuffed it goalwards and then Hernandez poached it, but from an offisde position.. its difficult to tell the quality and view i had were quite poor but thats hows it looked to me.

The summer will certainly be interesting as far as it concerns Chelsea, I dont see a mass amount of exits but Drogba has to be sold, seems stupid to say that when he's in pretty good form at the moment but him on the bench all the while an out of form Torres is playing probably isn't helping Torres himself and it seems like whoever the manager is next season they'll be under the instruction that Torres plays

I thought Chelsea played very well tonight in hindsight though they just didn't have the guile to create anything clear cut, they're probably only one player short imo someone better than Malouda or Kalou for the left hand side. Sanchez, Silva, Modric, Mata all could fill that role and give Chelsea another dimension

they're probably only one player short imo

Really, only 1 player?

Even if Cole, Lampard, Anelka and Drogba went back in time, they still need a RB (Bosingwa's crap and Ivanovic is a CB) and at least 2 wingers/attacking midfielders; 1 of which that could walk straight into the first team.

This post could go in the other thread too; Chelsea's problems stem back to Mourinho's spell as manager (tbf to him, it was something his successors didn't address either). Chelsea built a side looking for instant results, there was little to no longterm squad planning. Chelsea now find themself in a situation where the spine of their squad is the wrong side of 30, on the decline and will need replacing all within a couple of years.

Why on earth is anyone mentioning age at Chelsea, when the two oldest players on the pitch by a MASSIVE margin were Utd players.

People talk utter, utter trash about age, and its hilarious.

Age was not even close to a factor in Chelsea's performance, it was a bad performance, the young players were bad, the older players were bad, the oldest players both played well and played for Utd.

Lampard has come back pretty much off his first ever long term injury, afaik he's never had a "serious" injury in well his entire time at Chelsea, and Chelsea got crap while he was out and are still a bit crap.

Drogba, anyone, I mean anyone suggesting they should ditch a striker, in a bad season, who has 11 goals, 10 assists, is just flat out stupid. He bullied Utd when he came on, he made Evra look stupid, he made Rio look stupid, he made Vidic look stupid with simple turns.

He has freaking Malaria(or had it) midway through a season and didn't stop playing but it clearly took something out of him, and he's outperformed the guy who is still the top Liverpool scorer for the season since his move.

Cech is young, Lampard needs a bit more match fitness and less rubbish players around him. Shockingly Lampard looks less good with Ramires and a woefully out of form Essien, than a solid Ballack, an inform Essien and everyone else in form aswell.

Cole, Lampard, Anelka, Drogba, the only one of those showing ANY slowing down is also the one who had a half year injury.

The crap players are still the crap players, and need replacing, one good season out of 4 doesn't make Malouda good, especially when you factor in how he scored his goals last year(not many games, all massive victories by Chelsea, all large victories without his goals, only 2 or 3 of his goals having any effect on the result, ie, still useless).

They need a stronger manager, bringing in a woefully out of form Torres, when Sturridge looked very good and was getting zero chances, not spending on a winger.

Double looking likely, I would agree for the Champions League to happen we'd need Real to knock out Barca (and José has the formula) and then do a number on them in the final which is no easy task in itself obviously, but I think it'd be easier than a repeat of our last final with Barcelona.

I can see the final being a case of whos available and not out because of silly yellows etc (Giggs got a stupid one last week, Evra a stupid one last night, VDS also - although he rarely gets booked to be fair)

Concerntrate on Shalke first (or Inter) and see what happens if/when Utd get there:)
