UEFA Champions League/Europa League 12/13/14 April *** Spoilers ***

13th highest premier league goal scorer of all time.

For someone who you think isnt a striker, its amazing how there are only 12 players (all of them strikers) who have managed to score more premier league goals than him.
He is either the greatest goal scoring midfielder the premier league has ever seen, or a great striker.

Which is it?

If he continues scoring at his current rate, and plays through till he is 34 odd, he will of scored more premier league goals than everyone apart from Alan Shearer.

and thats with a few "bad" seasons thrown in for good measure (like this one for example) - hardly scoring for 5 months or so of the season :D

To be honest I wouldnt be surprised if Rooney is given a more central AM / in the hole position more often next season - with Chicharito starting more often ahead of him. (I said this a few weeks ago in the transfer thread, it just really looks like it would work for everyone involved really well) - and a combination of Fletcher, Carrick, Giggs (maybe Scholes if he re-signs) and Park depending on the game in question.

Robben to Utd rumour keeps on cropping up - think we need another proper winger so there is competition for places, but not sure about this myself.

How comes? He's been bloody good in that position for 2 seasons now

He does his job defensively but offers little going forward. With Chelsea playing with no natural width in midfield/attack, it's doubly important that their fullbacks get forward effectively.

He gets forward all the time when he plays there, generally looks quite a threat as well more often than not just bundling his way through. Fair enough end product might not be there but 9 times out of 10 it isn't there for Cole either but no one would say he's not an attacking full back

Ironic that attacking full backs like you're suggesting they need in the Bosingwa/Rafael mould get lambasted for being poor defensively but someone solid like Ivanovic gets criticised for not being good enough in attack :o

How often does he burst forward and get into decent attacking positions and more importantly, deliver a decent final ball? I can't think of many occasions I've seen him do that. At best, he'll bundle through a couple of challenges and then play a simple sideways ball when he gets anywhere near the 18 yard box.

There's a balance to be had between attack and defense but with the system Chelsea play (their 2 'wide' players tucking inside), that balance needs to be slightly shifted towards attack.

As for Bosingwa, he's just ****. And Rafael - I've not said he was poor defensively but when Utd play a more natural 4-4-2 with genuine wingers, the attack/defense balance of their fullbacks should slightly lean on the defensive side (against the better teams anyway).

I still think WAY to much is made of Gerrards ability, whack it into a corner, get fast players to run into it, its not massively easy but much of the apparant accuracy is created by the player running towards it adjusting where he runs to.

What the point in passing directly too a player cross field who will probably be picked up by then and challenging for the ball, probably why he hits it infront of them.

Ivanovic has the same number of assists as Ashley Cole this season, not saying they're all after lambasting runs down the right with a pin point cross on the end of it but more highlights how few telling final balls Cole puts in as well. Evra's only got 2 assists fyi as well, fact is not many full backs do have a good final ball (Baines is the only one I can think of that does) but Ivanovic certainly has no problem getting forward and giving Chelsea a threat down that side.

He's also scored 5 goals this season as well.

Pot + Kettle + Black.

:p

I don't get bitter when we lose

Chelsea do, every single time.

I love how you have all gone from "It's destiny to knock MU out" and "We'll do it for Roman, he deserves it"

To........

"Well we wouldn't want to win it at Wembley any way"

When in reality you would take it if it meant winning it in the park on a Sunday morning.

Chelsea jokers :D

You've got to love how bitter Chelsea are about losing :D

"Who wants to win the European Cup at Wembley anyway? I bet that played on the players minds"

****. :D
Wow.
Thank God i know no Chelsea fan like that.
Little personal digs at 'Mancunians' as well isn't very nice.
A trip to London for Mancunians, whether for a footballing occasion or at any other time, is hugely exciting - all those grand buildings and bright lights and shops with their own electricity. They love all that.
