UEFA Champions League/Europa League 12/13/14 April *** Spoilers ***

No disrespect to Spurs at all, but Im not entirely convinced RM were really on it attack wise - they knew they had a nailed on semi place already, and they just looked a little relaxed... less frantic in pace/movement, they just didnt appear in anything like top gear imo

Jose set them up to defend, get men behind the man and hit Spurs on the counter. I thought Spurs did very well at breaking up Real Madrid's counter attacks.

It was only after the goal went in that I'd describe Real Madrid's attitude as relaxed. That's when Jose (and Harry) started pulling off their best players.

I personally thought that Spurs did outplay Madrid for large portions of the game. Spurs had plenty of possession and the better of the chances to score. It's a shame that the game was decided by a goalkeeping error.

Supporting Spurs has caused me to take a very pessimistic attitude to football. They've let me down so many times in the past. I never thought for a moment that we'd ever qualify for the Champions League, let alone top our group, beat Inter and AC Milan and get to the quarter finals. Harry Redknapp and Daniel Levy deserve a lot of credit for what they've done. There's no shame in losing to a side that has the likes of Benzema and Kaka on its bench!

I don't often agree with Harry's spin but his comments on Gomes were spot on.

Gomes does make mistakes but his wonder saves far outweigh them.

The goals he should have saved were not critical ad the tie was decided far before then. We need to get behind him and get his confidence up for the season's run in. Against Chelsea, arsenal and Liverpool one would expect us to need some of his wonder keeping.

Yeah, the ITV fawning over Spurs was utterly cringeworthy

Was it as bad as listening to Alan Smith talk about Arsenal?

"No disrespect to Man City or Liverpool, but Spurs and Harry are the kind of team the viewers of the Champions League deserve to see!"

Can't see a problem there tbh, I've said all along that if City qualify they won't provide even half the entertainment Spurs have in this seasons Champions League. You can be as bitter as you want against Spurs but no one can't deny they've been a credit to the premiership.

TBF if you want to be challenging for major honours you can't stick with Gomes, you say his mistakes weren't costly but I disagree, he didn't do brilliantly for Real's first goal in the first leg and who knows if you were only looking at a 3-0 deficit who's to say last nights game wouldn't of played out differently?

To make arguably mistakes for 3 of Real's 5 goals over the two games is just criminal for a keeper playing in the Champions League tbh

I love it when Mourihno goes after the game that they need to train hard when they prepare to play Barcelona as his team always has to play with 10 men !!!

Also how tired did Mourihno look last night ?

I do hope Spurs can qualify for next seasons competition. I don't really like them, but they are very exciting to watch. I would also always support them over any team out of England.

but it's true
Istanbul and score line reversed vs Madrid /cough (city I agree with)
The ITV coms were a complete Harry-love-a-thon.

Highlights include:

"Forget the score, im going to give this game to Spurs!"

And

"No disrespect to Man City or Liverpool, but Spurs and Harry are the kind of team the viewers of the Champions League deserve to see!"

Pretty funny if they said that, was it Chiles?

Watch Rafa's interviews with FF.

It was basically a case of the "new MD" (ie: Purslow) telling Rafa that he had to sell star players to invest in the squad, so he had no choice to sell Alonso (for huge profit) and attempted to buy 3 players with the cash, first was Aquilani, but when the second and third deals were wrapped up the owners pulled the rug and refused to release the remaining funds from the Alonso sale.

Didn't Alonso want out after the whole Barry thing and the thing with his child being born near the inter game?
Either way Rafa was hindered in his last 2-3 years by them lot

that was then, this is now
how far did city make it in europe again?

Well then that's a completely daft statement to make as we weren't good enough to make it this season into the competition, he might aswell have said no offence to Wigan but the CL is better with spuds and not you. So there would be no offence taken, but he's saying it like if we were good enough as we previously were to make it in.

If he is referring to what we provided when we were in it it was far superior.

LOL it was...i thought the Spurs were invincible at home...they didnt even score a goal but Real scored ie well Ronaldo did in the 50th minute.

Have to say though that Spurs did well to get where they got to...Real was always going to be a major test for any team let alone Spurs...
