Shows you how important Modric is.
I'm pretty sure that Kroos is like the best playmaker the world has ever seen, I mean he literally won playmaker of the season or world cup, or playmaker of the moon or something the other year.
Another game he had a monumental impact on, two hilariously pathetic passes to the keeper that were pretending to be shots, did nothing defensively, grand total of zero killer through balls. Passed long/wide several times, lost the ball several times. Epic, another killer performance in a big game.
It's a shame I don't understand his position or I'd totally know why he was crucial to the team tonight.
Modric when he plays does more defensively and massively more offensively than other Real midfielders. I'm not a huge fan of Khedira but he'd do a lot more driving into the box and likely more defensively than Kroos. I'd have played him instead of almost anyone tonight, ahead of James who did almost nothing, ahead of Isco who did nothing, ahead of Kroos. PRetty much any player he could have started instead of, just moving the team around to get him in the middle. Benzema shouldn't have come off, the team is built around him running in the middle and providing a big physical presence against the CB's to allow others to find space. They've been dire without him playing, massively improved with him on the pitch compared to the first leg and did nothing at all when he went off.
Personally think that for the most part James + bale + Ronaldo + Isco doesn't work. You need 2-3 of those types of players, drifting around providing some spark, you need a couple more Modric/Khedira types who can impose themselves in midfield.
I pretty much feel that with Khedira they are resigned to him losing so have no interest in dropping an expensive player, be it Kroos, James or Bale, to get him in the team. They don't want him to succeed, help the team, be important, then walk out, shame.
