UEFA Champions League/Europa League 18/19/20 October *** Spoilers ***

Rooney rescues rusty united - guardian headline. i don't agree.

It infers that we might have looked good in other games and just performed poorly here.

Can you really be rusty for 5-6 games in a row? At what point do we accept that we are playing utter cack and that is just how we play for the time being? People got carried away with cricket score over arsenal that was simply an exceptional situation, what we have seen since is much closer to the norm. i find it condescending that we are told its just ring rust. we have been awful for ages.

They were throwing rolled up paper as some sort of joke weren't they? While what they done was wrong in the eyes of the officials, it was hardly dangerous so I'm not sure why you hope something is done about it.

I don't think you should throw anything on to the pitch, but my sarcasm clearly wasn't picked up on, I'll remember to use more emoticons next time. Throwing things on to the pitch is wrong, in any capacity.

I thought he support Man U?

He does but when he wants to sound impartial he's a Wednesday supporter ;)

**** off.

Didn't watch the Utd game as everybody was saying they'd give the Romanians a pasting. Detailed info seems lacking on the web. Why was Vidic red carded? Was it a straight red?

City will do well to get a result at the Mestalla, they're crazy good there in Europe, I remember when Arsenal went there a few years ago and we got absolutely battered, then Cesc played a ridiculous pass to Adebayor who scored one of his best Arsenal goals. Needed a miracle goal to get a result. Arsenal couldn't get the ball off them either, and that's when we were good at keeping it.

Their technique, intelligence and movement was so good last night vs City, if only they could have got a man closer to Rossi centrally they may have had some joy

Straight red for his best Bruce Lee impression. Looked worse than it was though to me. A yellow and a stern talking too would have been sufficient, it hardly looked malicious.

Bits of paper?

The horror. Ban them from the Champions League for the next five years.

Well it was pretty shocking actually, there was a guy trying to take a corner in the secondhalf on the far side from teh camera and he was literally being bombarded. In what world is thowing anything at players acceptable, I would find it incredibly offputting, even if it is mostly paper you can't be sure what people are chucking at you.

The fans had been explicitly warned at halftime not to throw things at players yet they persisted, if UEFA don't take action over this it will make a mockery of the tournament and give carte blanche for attacks on players in future.

Can anyone with a better memory recall what Utd's line up was like early season vs past 5-6 games. From what I can remember the line up offensively was pretty set for their great start to the season, Young, Nani, Rooney, Welbeck, Cleverly/Anderson in midfield. did they play that every single game?

Then their form dropped not necessarily when Cleverley/Welbeck got injured but when they started dropping Nani, Rooney or both for a game?

I don't think you have anyone as backup to Cleverley who can pass in the same way and create attacks, meaning you were especially when Rooney didn't play, almost exclusively playing through Young, which made him pretty easy to make as you always know the ball is going that way.

As for Vidic, it probably wasn't a red, but it looked at first glance like a flying kick, it wasn't good, he completely missed the ball and if the other guy had been half a foot further forward he could have ended up studding him in the ribs and being a pretty awful tackle. The real question is, once again for a "top" centreback, why on earth is he doing that kind of tackle at all, and why is he doing it on the half way line with little to no danger, cover behind him, and had he not run forwards, he would have been back to defend aswell. The amount of CB's lately who love to rush miles out of defence to do a crazy tackle near the half way line is insane, almost all of Arsenal's CB's love to do it.

I didn't spot that at half time / that instant Hangtime.

I maintain that they shouldn't throw things on to the pitch, irrelevant of what it is as it makes a mockery of the rules.

I do hope UEFA take action, before anyone says anything it's nothing to due with it being Manchester City either.

I also won't be posting in here for the foreseeable future :)

Dm not much is that different - except we were just flattered by others ineptitude early in the season. cheese could easily have won/drawn they just were awful in the final third.

Its like the basel game, sure we were 2-0 at half time but only due to basles woeful finishing. we didn't dominate and barely deserved that lead. second half they just composed themselves and started putting away their glorious chances.

look at crouchio - if he could finish we would and should have lost that game.

LOLCity...silly barstewards almost cost me £140 last night...thank god they managed to get a win...thats it no more betting on those overpaid muppets there. Their first CL game, they cost me £50 when they didnt get a win.

Hmmm Arsenal and Marseille tonight...hoping that Arsenal get a win over in France but with our defence, i cant see us keeping a clean sheet...i wonder when Wenger will finally get around to sorting our frankly rubbish and leaky defence.

Rumours are that Real are lining up a £30mill offer for RVP in Jan...great ****ing great if RVP goes...am hopeful that RVP will stick around though and if he isnt then Wenger needs to sell him asap in the summer and not let this become Fabregas part 2 which it could very well be.

being a life long gunner hope we can pull it off tonight, can see 2-1 to us but if we are not careful 2-2 which considering our form recently aint all doom and gloom but aint exactly sunshine either haha. RVP, well think if we can get 4th spot in the prem - theres a long long way to go yet - can see him staying but rightly so he needs to see where we finish.

Wenger should have shipped fab and nasri off early and finished up the summer deals early like man u, but ah well we shall see what happens tonight!

Not sure what the question here is but yes against West Brom, Spurs and Arsenal were started with the same front 6, against Bolton Welbeck was injured so Hernandez came in and Cleverley went off after 5 minutes so Carrick came on. Against Chelsea Fletcher came in for Carrick. Against Stoke Rooney was injured so Berbatov came in and Hernandez went off after 5 minutes so Owen came on. Finally against Norwich Rooney and Hernandez were back but Young was rested for Park.

On Young for the first 3 games it's probably fair to say a lot of our play went down the left but against Chelsea and Stoke Young was pretty anonymous (as he was against Liverpool) with almost all of the play going through Nani on the right side. Young although he got the late equaliser was pretty rubbish against Basel as well and it was really Nani's appearance from the bench which sparked us as an attacking force late in that game.
