ha. Looks like he is driving an invisible bus. :D

Shocking performance from us tonight, we can't even say that we ground the result out because Montpellier should have scored 3 or 4 at least, they were simply terrible in front of goal, and unlucky with some of their penalty shouts being turned down wrongly. The Diaby foul in the box near the end was absolutely stone wall, he put his wrong foot in, he had his arms all over the Montpellier player and how the linesman didn't tell the ref it was a penalty I'll never know. They had quite a few breakaways into our box only to totally mess it up as well, Mounier missed a sitter and the chap on the right wing with the tricks fluffed at least two chances.

The only positive we can take from that is that we're coming away with 3 points, the performance was dire.

hehe, completely forgot to mention the penalty.

What was it I mentioned the other day, Diaby a couple seasons ago 2 goals against pompie, own goal against Utd the next game pretty much.

Fans are really weird with the one half decent game and completely forgetting every other game someone has played. Diaby has put in excellent performances before, so has Denilson, Cygan, Grimandi, Walcott. He's just not a good player and we'll get more performances like last night where he deserved to concede a penalty, get sent off, concede another goal when he decided trying to be Messi in our own box with a half dozen chances to clear it, and he just didn't offer anything defensively/offensively. He was completely rubbish for the full 90 minutes and an entire liability.

Why won't Arsenal win titles with Wenger in charge? Every other top manager would have subbed Diaby at worst at half time, maybe LONG before half time. You have a guy on the field both risking getting sent off, unable to impose himself and playing completely awfully. If this was a game that meant going through to the next round or not, you just don't take that kind of risk leaving him on. If it was Fabregas you might, or RVP, the worst player on the pitch, never. Thing is he constantly pushes his luck in those situation, Mourinho, Guardiola, Fergie, most top managers take off players in that situation, Wenger just runs straight into problems and once again ridiculous referee decisions saved his ass.

I remember Song getting an early yellow against Barca, didn't take him off and the ref saved him, he did probably 6-7 further yellow card deserving tackles in the game and should have been sent off early in the first half. It's that kind of mentality from Wenger that costs us games, leaving someone completely ineffective on the pitch or someone who should get sent off.

Seems Fergie is going to continue rotating the keepers, said there's a strong possibility DDG could be back but also;

Sir Alex elaborates a little about his choice in goal, admitting both David De Gea and Anders Lindegaard are young and inexperienced in the English game so "alternating is not a big problem for me".

Sigh, alternating may not be a big problem for you SAF but it's not going to help the team...

The players looked pretty tired all in all. Subs should definitely have come earlier in the second half, and I was surprised not to see more rotation. I think Koscielny and Santos could have come in to freshen things up, certainly, and I'm surprised Diaby was risked as well when Coq and Ramsey were available.

That said, I think you do Montpellier a disservice; it wasn't just that Arsenal were awful, because Montpellier played very well in the second half and showed they're not the chumps certain navel-gazing commentators had portrayed them to be.

Also, if you can take three points away when you don't play well, I think that's a very big positive. You simply don't win things if you can't grind out results when you're not at your best.

The worrying thing is if you explore the quotes even further Fergie eludes to the fact that had it not been for Lindegaard's injury De Gea wouldn't of got that run in the team during the second half of last season so we've basically got to hope injury on Lindegaard for us to see De Gea used properly :o

No team wins a league by switching their keepers around every couple of games....

In the long term it will do - at the moment they are about equal imo (DDG probably has more chance of succeeding, but Im not sure he is learning quick enough about aeriel balls etc

I can't see how Fergie thinks will do anything but hinder the team massively. Or does he think he's the only genius in the footballing world because no-one else does this?

We'll win nothing like this.

While De Gea is more capable of 'spectacular' saves, Lindegaard doesn't really make any mistakes and is far more solid when it comes to crosses. Has he made any mistakes in a competitive game yet?

Yep, looked totally amatuer against Newcastle away last season, made a mistake against City in the FA Cup which led to Aguero's goal and like Shami said his kicking was rubbish against Southampton

Ah okay, I can't remember who was in goal for which game as they interchange so much. :p

I'd like to see De Gea get more of a chance though, swapping them constantly isn't a good idea at all.

Lindegaard (kindergarten autocorrect :p ) is good, but DDG has done nothing to warrant being dropped. You don't rotate keepers like this, it's unnatural. The Keeper is part of the defence, yet fergie says he wants consistency there...

With all respect for his past achievements, i personally look forward to when he and Mike Phelan leave. It's almost time. Wish we could bring in the new manager as assistant for a year prior to taking the position just to bed him in to the club, players and staff.

Yup, I'm surprised that Podolski, Cazorla and Gibbs weren't rested, I think I would have preferred to see a weaker starting 11 but comprised of players hungry to put in a good performance after being on the bench for prolonged periods whether it be performance related or injury related. I can't believe we persisted with Diaby in that game and I still have no idea how they didn't manage to put the ball in the net aside from the penalty.

Hmm, I don't think I did Montpellier a disservice, I did say in my earlier post they shoud have scored at least 3 or 4 times but were rubbish in front of goal, which they were. The really tame effort against Mannone virtually on the penalty spot is one that sticks out for me, and I remember Cabella missing two straightforward chances. They tore us apart at times, but it was their own wastefulness which cost them, I thought I made it pretty clear that was my viewpoint in my earlier post. :)

Also, if you can take three points away when you don't play well, I think that's a very big positive. You simply don't win things if you can't grind out results when you're not at your best.

Well usually I would agree with this, if it was a dogged defensive performance from us I would say yes we ground out the result and deserve credit, but we really don't deserve much credit at all. Montpellier didn't lose because we put a brick wall up, they lost because we bought their best goalscorer and they don't look like they've replaced him, the amount of chances they squandered was unreal and that wasn't really anything to do with our performance.

Yup, there are times where top teams like Utd just can't seem to click in offence, but someone bundles a ball over the line and the response after is if you can win when you play like that its great.

But when you win because you gift the other chance 542 chances at goal and they are completely ridiculously poor... that is different. Playing not your best and still winning, is better than nothing, but we were gifted that result, nothing more or less.

We weren't nearly as bad against Liverpool but the game was similar, they had 50% more chances than us and I can think of 3-4 that really should have been buried, like last night. We SHOULD have lost both games, our performance deserved to lose both games(okay the Liverpool game slightly less so, but 19 chances, thank god they didn't have Dempsey ;) ).

Just had a look because I didn't see last night, they had 17 shots to our 7, both had 4 on target. We should have had a red card and they should have had a second penalty. Not sure if they were missing a striker or simply nervous, but even without the second penalty they deserved they should have given us a beating.

I’m getting excited about seeing the start of our defence of the title at the Bridge tonight. I won't forget to wave to cameras and Wembley here we come! :D
