UEFA Champions League/Europa League 18/19/20 September *** Spoilers ***

This is such a nothing thing to be arguing about :p

That's true.

sandy's figures might have been wrong but not so far wrong that it detracted from his point which I believe was that while Liverpool left out several players, they still put out enough first team players to beat a relatively poor team and keep their key players fresh for Sunday :)

Other sides put out their first team, instead of resting them, and still couldn't win :p

Really Tom? Wiki? :o :p

Henderson was £16m but Enrique was closer to £5.5m.

And if I remember correctly, Nacional announced the figures for the Coates deal (it was in $'s) and worked out at just under £5m.

Hendersen was 13 million + 3 mill in addons (don't think those addon clauses will come into effect either ;)) And your right Coates was a Dollar figure by all accounts.

pretty silly to call it a poor performance when there were 4 "senior" players starting, of which only 1 (Enrique) could be called a 1st teamer and as you've rightly pointed out other teams have played YB's and lost recently with far stronger teams out :D

spurs lost to young boys as

1. we were poor
2. it was out first cl game. nerves got the better of us
3. it was an astro turf pitch

we lost by 1 goal and then stuck 4 past them at the lane. we also went on to do very well in the competition.

We stuck 5 past them away and many inexperienced youths. We were also poor defensively. (Understatement.)

What is "silly" is that people are claiming the side was inexperienced and lacked "senior players".

The players I highlighted were either vastly experienced (Carragher, Enrique, Downing), and/or cost high sums (Borini, Coates, Henderson), yet Rodgers was talking as if it was a development squad.

Admittedly, he can't be blamed for the shocking transfer dealings of "King Kenny", but he himself did splash out over £10m on the best striker seen at Anfield since Neil Mellor in Borini.

Enrique cost £5.5 Mill
Coates cost £6.8 Mill
Henderson cost £13 Mill
Borini cost £10.5 Mill

Apart from that good effort.

Apologies - especially for rounding Coates up by £200,000, but I think you'll find Henderson was signed with bolt ons, but yes, Borini was less than I stated - conversion misdemeanor.

However, based on him having scored 9 top flight career goals (all in Serie A), I've coverted his signing to "£ a waste of money".

Nice judgement based on a few games, your knee okay?

Watched him several times last season playing for Roma as I like a bit of Serie A - think I'm nostalgic from the early 90's when it was a top league - and certainly think he has a fantastic agent.

Benteke at Villa will score more than him in the EPL this season.

I don't often listen to Talksport so I can't comment on that but from everthing I've read, seen or listened to, the only comment from him that's remotely close to what you're suggesting was that we had a very young side - which we did.

Average age of 24, but I've also read it contained "young and fringe players".

The likes of Henderson, Downing, Enrique, Borini, Shelvey, Carragher, Coates should not be deemed that.

He's talking as if he's led a reserve team to a 5-0 win the Nou Camp.

I suppose when you're struggling, any win is worth crowing about....

Henderson, Downing, Enrique, Borini, Shelvey, Carragher, Coates aren't either young or fringe players?

The only two of those that I can see starting on Sunday are Borini and Shelvey - both I'd consider to be young (neither started yesterday either). The side that was put out yesterday was made up of squad players and youngsters, I'm not sure how you can dispute that.

4 of the starting 11 were over the age of 25, 4 were 21 and under with the remaining 3 being 22, 24 and 24. The 3 subs we made were a 17yr old, 20 and 21. If that is not a young and faiirly in-experienced side I don't know what is.

Apparently price tag these days automatically makes you a seasoned pro though, go figure.
