just read that even if chelsea some how qualify they will get either real, barca, bayern, schalke or malaga...
Playing like they are, I just can't see them winning any of those games. Oscar was rubbish tonight, he's almost always rubbish, sure he'll do some fancy run but scoring in an open goal from far out when the ball bounces perfectly for you is some way from dominating a game over 90 mins.
Why they loaned out Lakuku I will never know, without Drogba they have no focal point, as much as people like to mock Torres, and his finishing has been woeful. His interplay hasn't been bad, at all, he's brought others into the game and though he looks like a girl, he's well able to shoulder barge people and out muscle people when running with the ball. Generally speaking Oscar/Mata are weak on the ball, they won't win many headers, they won't out muscle a CB very often. They desparately miss Drogba, and letting him go was a monumental mistake, but to lose him then send out your only other domineering striker is insane.
They had zero presence upfront tonight, Hazard/Mata had no one to pass the ball into making runs beyond the defence, or anyone they could pass it to who could hold it then pass it back as they make a run in behind. Juve, had their finishing been better and he with a long name that I won't try to spell been less utterly selfish, they'd have run out far more than 3-0 winners, far far more.
The new right back they got, looks hopeless defensively and offered next to nothing offensively, Cole isn't anywhere near his form from the end of last season, Luiz/Cahill get beaten far too often, Ivanovic is a beast though.
Ramirez, they kept banging on about how good he is, again, yet he did very little.
They've left themselves no choice but to play Torres, they are much better with him playing because he makes runs and has strength no one else they can play has. If they can recall Lakuku, they really should, or should they get Falcao in Jan, he could be the missing piece of the puzzle. Hazard and Mata can be brilliant, but they need someone brilliant in the middle who plays differently, to play off. Torres is the best they've got, but Falcao would be massively better.
Thing is, if they managed to get Falcao, and qualify for the next stage, they'd be a very much stronger team to play in the next round with a striker who can make any team his *****.
No real need to laugh at them for winning last year and doing well this year. it was an emergency paper over the cracks job by RDM, had he gone all out attack as he's been playing this year.... last season... they'd have been eaten alive. In rebuilding into an offensive team trying to play great football rather than fluke a defensive based win.... you've got a massive change in the team, and expecting them to win playing an entirely different brand of football is just daft. Few teams that win the champs league try and play a completely different type of football the next year, and by few, I mean none.
