UEFA Champions League/Europa League 21/22/23 February *** Spoilers ***

Hes been making mistakes for ages. These arent little lapses of judgement its massive errors leading to goals, errors that should have been ironed out years ago. The fact he hasnt improved under any coach speaks volumes, infact id argue under Pep he's regressed massively.

He's very young for a defender, playing at a very high level. I'd give him a few years before writing him off completely.

He does have time on his hands but really you'd expect him to make a mistake, learn from it and move on. Problem being he doesn't seem to be doing that, how many times has he been caught out going back to the keeper? If that was me, after getting caught once the last thing on my mind would be going back to the keeper, i'd be getting rid. Instead he keeps doing it, strikers must lick their lips every time he's on the ball because he will give it to you eventually.

At the moment he's a complete liability. A good defender is one that rarely makes mistakes, Stones makes far, far too many, some small some huge. I hope he can improve, being English, but I can't see it.

Agree completely. He seems to get an easy ride from the media because he's English as well. I can't remember any defender making so many big mistakes as Stones is.

Yeah absolutely it was even evident last night. Dunne was talking about how it was all Otamendi's fault because Stones needs someone who is solid alongside him.

Well, i'm sure Otamendi feels exactly the same because they're both as bad as each other.

Or maybe he just isnt very good. Has that ever crossed your mind? Hes on a bigger stage and is getting exposed time and time again. His positional play and decision making is bang average.

Of course he's good:

He clearly has the ability

He was a rough diamond that needed a decent coach/coaching set up to iron out the flaws. Instead he got Martinez that let him do whatever he wanted because of the other stats in his favour from that article. Martinez clearly showed he had no idea what to do with defenders and even the good ones we had were woeful under him. I think the boy has been very unlucky, when he needed the most help he got RM and 3 other defenders, normally solid who also were at the mercy of RM's defensive bafoonery. Sadly he needs to go back to basics but I fear sadly it's too late for him.

Haha you link praising him whilst he was at Everton yet this season he has regressed so badly its still Martinez's fault ?

Wut ?

It's under Martinez he got that 50 million pound move so he cant have done that bad a job. He should at least have some natural ability as a defender, im not having it that its Martinez's fault at all. He might not have helped but he sure as hell hasnt ruined his career like you are suggesting.

Back to basics you say...thats the issue. He can't even do that...

.

For some reason it seems hard for you to understand that the link praises his positives so the ability is there but as I keep saying he's been allowed at Everton to get away with the basic errors and get into bad habits, the link even mentions how many errors he makes that lead to a goal. That link is from Everton last season but he's not regressed this year, he did last year and I said it time and time again during the season. I was over the moon that they would pay 25m for him let alone 50 because he is a liability. The Everton coaching staff let him get away with and he now has some terrible habits. I don't think he will recover from it. He might have ironed them out when he's 28 at Sunderland.

It mentions he can pass a ball and win an aerial ball or two. His errors this season under Pep have doubled i believe.

For some reason you find it hard to understand that he hust isnt very good, has made massive errors wherever he has been and unless you were in on the coaching sessions, which i doubt you were, then you have no idea what they were coaching him. Under Pep his positional sense is none existant, his death balls to the keeper have increased significant aswell but sure...the ability to not put the correct weight on a ball is all down to Martinez.

Just maybe...he isnt a very good defender who had a half decent season under the manager who has apparently ruined his career.

Man Utd XI: Romero, Young, Bailly, Smalling, Blind, Carrick, Pogba, Fellaini, Mata, Mkhitaryan, Ibrahimovic.

That is a weak as hell team :/ Hopefully we don't regret that. Of course Shaw is left out again though.

On the other hand, excited that Rooney might be on his way to China. He's been great but he's just not good enough for us any more.

Really?

Apart from Romero, Fellaini and Young that is pretty much all first choice.

I assume that we will have a **** first half and then take Fellaini off for Martial and suddenly we will play well again and no one will mention why that might be...
