Defensively they weren't very good, they gave Real, a very poor team tonight, chance after chance after chance.
HIguain and Benzema just aren't top strikers, or even close. Di Maria was mostly poor, Ozil was his usual self in a big game, giving it away, misplacing passes, useless defensively, weak on the ball, lazy. Modric was their best midfielder but ultimately didn't do enough. Kaka when he came on did nothing, Ramos was his usual overly aggressive, nasty piece of work self. Smashing people in the face, shoving them over, Coentrao the same with a tackle that were it most players I might call an accident, but he has a habit of doing stuff like that.
Dortmund were very very strange, the last 10 minutes , well after they conceded the first, they had the ball in Real's half, and they would make insanely lazy passes, underhit, overhit, giving the ball away for no need. In the first half they had people break in behind, beat the offside trap but almost every time the pass was massively overhit miles beyond where it needed to be and straight to the keeper.
Bizarre performance, they were okay at points defensively, diabolic defensively in the first 15 and the last 20, and upfront, they just seemed disinterested in making the effort. Real, too many passengers, their biggest problem with the league win, and a majority of their buys since they got Ronaldo is the team has improved dramatically, but its almost entirely down to Ronaldo, but Ozil, Di Maria, Khedira, and Benzema/Higuain get far far too much credit for Ronaldo carrying the team, and as such those players haven't been moved on or replaced when they really should be.
Ozil I would keep as a rotation player, he'll get goals and run games against the less good side so they can rest a key player, but he is AWFUL in 9 out of 10 games against big teams, the games that matter.
The only thing I'm surprised by was how everyone thought 3-0 was a complete and utter impossibility. But it is as with Arsenal against Bayern and Milan the year before, teams give up and barely try in the second game, yet basically every single time, despite conceding the "better" team goes through.
