UEFA Champions League/Europa League 5/6/7 April *** Spoilers ***

Remember even before the qualifiers? People said we'd do an Everton. :p

Fair enough, we came close. :D

Then people said we'd never progress past the group stages when they saw the group.

Etc. etc.
Quotes please? ;)

As far as I can recall, most serious posters said that Spurs would probably last up until they met decent opposition...

Nice to see Gazza looking well and talking sense for a change before the game.

Nice touch by Mourinho as well, he gave him tickets to the match and his personal Exec box to watch it in.

The envelope with the tickets was addressed to 'The Special One'

:)

Nice touch. Mourinho can stir with the best but he's a class act when he wants to be.

Quote for most ridiculous statement of the year?

Clearly you haven't seen how the Madrid Strikers have failed to set the world alight this year.

You think Benzema, Higuain and Adebayor have done a great job this season. 10,7 and 2 goals in the league doesn't look like an awesome bunch of strikers to choose from.

I don't rate any of them, more importantly neither does the manager.

Doesn't look good for Spurs. All but out of the Champions League and struggling in the Premiership. Will they be able to keep Modric, VDV and Bale next season?

Yes, Yes and considering he signed a new deal a few weeks ago Yes.

Spurs beaten by a much better side, the only team in the CL to have scored more goals than them this season, lets not forget, Spurs played 75 minutes of the game with 10 men, I doubt many sides will do much better against Real Madrid in the Bernabau in the same position.

I also wouldn't say they were struggling in the Prem either, 5th in the table, 5points clear of 6th with a game in hand, its likely they wont make the CL again next season, but when you saw the investment City made in the summer it wasnt expected anyway, but then again, neither was reaching the quarter finals, and further than Arsenal either.

Only thing I didn't enjoy about the game though was Ray Wilkins.

Thats irrelevant when you have a man with 38 goals practically playing up front anyway.

Higuain has been out for 4+ months, was in good form prior
Benzema has been playing well last few weeks with assists as well and decent in the CL so far isn't he?
Adebayor doesn't always get a full game and came in January?

Quote for most ridiculous statement of the year?

Higuain was injured for several months, just came back, doesn't look close to fit, or sharp. They just had to loan in Adebayor, Benzema has been an epic fail at Real in all but about 4-5 games over a very short space of time in the past 6 4 weeks or so.

He's talking about strikers, not wingers, and no Real have very few strikers and when they had one injured, the ONLY other option was Benzema and he was painfully bad.

Spurs CAN win the home leg, but they won't, its the lack of any real tactics where Harry gets caught out and in these games it counts. Crouch is simply a rubbish player, too many players were not good tonight, basically the whole offence was completely rubbish. Defensively, Spurs really couldn't have gotten more blocks in, they were resiliant but ultimately the way the midfield/forwards played, conceding posession SO easily they were just asking for constant pressure.

Pav instead of Crouch, someone who can actually win but hold up the ball a bit, Jenas, rubbish, someone like Kranjcar would have provided time and space, not a fan of Lennon at all but you could have done an Inter and played Lennon, Defoe, Bale, sat back and then caught them on the break now and then when they weren't expecting it.

Marcelo and Ramos, they made dodgey challenges, well Ramos, no one went up against Marcelo all night long, both awful, awful defenders, prone to bad challenges, late tackles, yellow cards.

They didn't play a squad to match the weak spots of Real's team, they didn't play a formation to put Real in trouble, they didn't start an actual striker and Crouch, unforgivably stupid tackles, both completely unnecessary.

Ramos, Marcelo, Pepe and Carvalho quite often all very poor at dealing with pacey strikers, but all very strong, Ramos and Pepe are incredibly good in the air, Crouch was never, in a million years, going to work tonight.

 Apart from adebayor the other two are very good, especially higuain. You do realise he's been injured for the past 4 months right? Benzema has been out of form but scored 21 goals this season with 12 in his last 12 games.

Cant disagree with any comments regarding Crouch, a total muppet. Lennon didn't play as was taken ill and replaced in the starting XI by Jenas (as a result he wasn't allowed to be on the bench). Kranjcar was injured, as is Pienaar hence why Jenas had to play.

If only VdV has took Bales long throw first time, could be a lot better game next week - still, was a good run and as ever with Spurs, not a dull moment.

Exactly, it doesn't matter that Higuain has been injured. It wouldn't matter if he scored 100 goals last season, he's off form and the statement still stands that Madrid don't have a great pool of strikers to choose from currently.

Benzema is ****, Manu had a lucky escape. Adebayor was the best JM could get in, I will be amazed if they want to pay for him.

Ok so if real win the champions league this year, mourinho to come to spurs and rescue us with levy splashing the 38m on mangers fees?

Let it be so

Just got back from pub (on my own, "awww") and erm... well that looked rather regulation. Crouch is not gonna be Mr. popular tonight you feel...
