UEFA Champions League/Europa League 7/8/9 March *** Spoilers ***

There's no way on earth that is a red card, at least the ref was consistent as he gave a freekick for a shoulder challenge in the 1st half.

Well it is. Goal scoring opportunity. I didnt think so at first but you cant deny it really.

Didn't they change the rule recently as they felt a 'double' punishment was harsh?

Also they've lost the plot now, Ox shouts his way to a yellow, gotta be careful could end up with more men off.

It's only a red card if the player hasn't made an attempt to play the ball.

Kos is trying to get a leg in front by using his body and play the ball... He hasn't just shoved him over from behind or dragged him back therefore it's only a yellow card.

The fact he gave a yellow to begin with shows that the ref knows the rules, but he's either given a second yellow for chatting back or that bell on the line has changed the refs mind.

I'm still not seeing the leg you're talking about. Just barged him all day long.

By that description you can just run directly into the back of the player... as long as your intention was to get the ball and the player being there didn't matter. Put your leg infront of a player running forwards and A, you'll trip the player and B, the ball that is moving away from you, you won't get near it.

The genuine attempt to get the ball thing also means, you actually have to have a chance of getting the ball.

But importantly he didn't actually try and do what you said, he didn't get his leg in front of him, watch it again, he just leant into him, he wasn't at that moment at all trying to get his leg in front of him, he came from behind barged him, nothing more too it.

I can't actually believe you think that Kos foul is worthy of being a man down for the rest of the game. Give him a yellow but not a red

He barged a player clear through on goal, he came from way behind and made no attempt to get the ball at all, under what rule is barging a guy over clean through on goal not a red card?

Just because it wasn't a leg breaker looking tackle doesn't make it not a red.

I agree a penalty and yellow card, there is no way that should be a red and as mentioned the ref didn't think so either, it will be interesting if they confirm the 15th (or whatever they're called) official upgraded it or if Kos did in fact say something (although it appears a 2nd yellow wasn't shown).

It wasn't the most blatant red you'll see but it's easy to see why it was given. The rules were changed so that only if you make a genuine attempt to win the ball that it's a yellow rather than red - it's easy to see why somebody would say that he didn't make a genuine attempt.

The problem was that the ref didn't consult his assistants before giving the yellow card.

Like it's being mentioned he hasn't pulled a shirt or anything or jumped after him, it's not dangerous, yeah it's a professional foul, yea it's a yellow, hence the penalty, that's the advantage. Being a man down is like being 2 or 3 down, penalty plus being a man down give Bayern like a 3 or 4 goal advantage over that Kos foul. The punishment does not fit the crime.
