Van Dijk wasn't trying to hurt Mertens, but it was still a clumsy tackle and a blatant red. You'd be going absolutely mad if one of the Liverpool players was on the receiving end of that challenge, it shouldn't be any different because it's your own team's player.

He did make contact And there was no injury as there was very little force in the challenge. His body weight is fully grounded and he's not gone flying into the challenge.
