UEFA Champions League/Europa League ** Spoilers ** [16/17/18 September 2014]

Strange game but that was solid, exactly how we needed to start this and build on Saturday's result.

Lukaku's first touch was dreadful last season, cant see it improving anytime soon hehe

It will never improve, he's the best we will get but he's not worth anything like 27m. People seem shocked he's not at chelsea, I'm not. He's not and will never be top 4 material.

Much much better result than I hoped though, so shouldn't complain how much we overpaid for crap drogba. :D

Once again because you keep claiming something others haven't, people were mystified by the decision to loan out Lukaku WHEN THEY HAD TORRES AS THE STARTING STRIKER.

One scored 15-17 goals in each of the past two seasons, one of those strikers would have been incredibly lucky to score that amount across the past 3 seasons.

No one anywhere has said Lukaku is the best striker in the world, merely that the alternative was Torres, an unmitigated disaster of a player. Given the choice between Costa now at his best and Lukaku at 21 who is scoring 15 + goals at 19 and 20 years old, there is a huge amount of potential there.

Scoring that number of goals at West brom and Everton, not as a first team striker at Chelsea or City is significantly more impressive. You keep passing it off as everyone says he should be first team at a top four club because he's that good/consistent now, no one anywhere have I seen suggest that. It's entirely because of who was at Chelsea and how utterly awful they were that he should indeed have been starting there.

He also only turned 21 in May, it's not like he's 22 next week though that doesn't make much difference, but it means he's scored basically 32 goals iirc by age 21, something basically no other striker has managed. He brings a lot more to his game than just goals, Drogba didn't score much in most seasons but by god could he occupy a defence making the rest of the teams job easier. Drogba would just be a battering ram, occupy both cb's and leave space for others. He'd hold the ball up, win headers, help out defensively. Those are all things he does beyond a first touch or scoring.

If he can spend the season running at defences causing them to back peddle and make mistakes, which he's done consistently for 2 and a bit years now, if he can occupy defenders creating space for others, if he can create a massive nuisance of himself all over the pitch AND get 15+ goals a season that IS a 30mil striker right there, because, name another striker who does the same.

He's a handful like Drogba is AND he's scoring at a rate basically no other player in the league has achieved by his age. Other currently top strikers looked no better than Lukaku did at the same age but you're writing him off because.... he's way ahead of other top players at the same age? You're comparing Lukaku now to who exactly that makes you call him crap. Which other strikers scored 17 and 15 goals in the past two seasons, at new clubs each season having adapt to a new manager and team mates each time?

How many other strikers switch to wide right and put in a fantastic performance as he did against Arsenal? He works hard, he's just 21, he'll mess up plenty but there are many signs he can be an exceptionally effective player in the future, no reason to believe he won't improve further over time and is already playing at a high level delivering results that other strikers can't.

Tickets for the Europa League fixture away to FC Krasnodar will go on sale from Monday 22 September.

The Club has received an allocation of 500 tickets and they are priced at £2 each.

Incredible pricing. :D

If they were closer to moscow I might have had a go for that. I could get staff travel with work to moscow but 1300km is a bit far as a second leg of the journey :D

Always had a soft spot for Everton, even as a Liverpool supporter, but they're really very good to watch under Martinez. He's destined for big things in Spain eventually imo.

You still won't sell out :p

Shortest flights I've found are 10 hour 30 minutes then they are 3 hours a head. Most are 14 hours with a change at Moscow, +1 more if you fly from Manchester.

Be amazed if 100 go to be honest. Suppose you could drive if you had the time. :D

10 hour flight? It's 4 and a bit hours Gatwick to moscow with EasyJet iirc. Don't you need a visa as well? Yeah I will be surprised if 100 go too :)

But yeah from moscow I'd need another interconnecting flight and I think that's too much hassle even for cheap tickets :D
