Liverpool have been killing themselves for 20 and a bit minutes though, they were closing everything in numbers and with pace. They were trying for a fast start, a goal then probably to sit back like they've done many times. Problem is they aren't nearly as good in attack so couldn't get that early break through despite the very very high tempo, and their defence seems to get worse by the game.
It's not a terrible idea to try something, better than doing nothing but it's a pretty slim chance of working and running at that pace will tire anybody earlier and realistically Real aren't a team you want to be tired against as you start making mistakes and Ronaldo will punish mistakes harshly.
