UEFA Champions League/Europa League ** Spoilers ** [9th - 11th December 2014]

Man Citys supporters are ****. For years we have heard how the people in Manchester actually support City and the United supporters are all from the south. Well no one in Manchester actually likes football then. The gates considering their status is laughable, the away support terrible.

Cambridge United would get more fans home and away in the CL than they can summon, Let alone poorer premiership clubs.

The Malteaser will be seething!

Hahahahahahahaha, can't believe I got a mention! Then the genius comes in with his expert analysis saying I always have an excuse. As long as he is happy, bless him.

I prepared a small analysis on the whole thing as I am part of quite a few forums and I knew I had to give an explanation. Here goes. (Prepared it for the Roma subreddit, hence why I refer to Roma as us/we.

Prepared this for the Roma thread, but the post match thread hasn't been posted yet...
Did we really think we could qualify after the CSKA game? I mean look, a few years ago Napoli got eliminated with 12 points. 12 points. We have 5 (and 6 points would have made us qualify). Now when I saw thwe draw, I knew it was going to be hard. We all knew it. I said from the beginning, we need to take 6 points from CSKA then 1 draw and 1 win from the 4 games against City and Bayern.

The group started well. 3 points against CSKA and 1 point AWAY to City. Very good. 2 losses against Bayern can happen, no big deal (although 7-1………). Now seeing the group, we needed a win vs CSKA and a draw vs City (if City had lost to Bayern in the 5th game, we would have been through outright). Now Roma had the ‘advantage’ of playing the CSKA before the City game. Winning would have put us on 7 points, City on 2. A draw or loss in City vs Bayern would put us through. But nope, we had to fluff the CSKA game in the last second. I’m not going to go into the details, we all know what happened, but we shot ourselves in the foot right there. So there we go, 12-5-5-5. City home up next.

We knew we had one result to guarantee us the qualification, a win. That was the only way we would qualify. The team went in well. Cholevas should have buried that but he is not a striker so it can happen. The nothing. Can you recall a decent chance for Roma? A bunch of shots from long range (Nainggolan, Maicon) and the Manolas header. No pressure from the defence. No pressure from the midfield. Slow movement a nd slow passing. It looks like nobody feels like playing. I don’t know if you guys saw the Juve – Atletico game, but it was the exact same game. Boring, slow passing. There was no change in Roma’s play after the City goal. Where is the reaction a big team should have?

I don’t want to bring them into the conversation, but look at Juve. A terrible start to the group, 2-1 home against Olympiakos, and they manage to over turn the result, win 3-2 and go on to qualify. Look City. 2 points after 4 games. 2 ****ing points and they got through.
I can’t believe people would have been happy with a 0-0 draw (qualification). Yes we would have qualified, granted, but we would have JUST made it. We put ourselves in a very good position after 2 games but we ****ed it up in the following 3.

To conclude, we need to improve. The mentality of the team is disastrous. We need to close games. We need to think more like a big team. We failed in our first objective. I just hope that we will win the other 2 as failing those will be disastrous.

City will never be a top team due to their non-existent history and sudden rise

They already are. You can dispute the morals of how they got there or chelsea but they're there now and not leaving, them, chelsea and manu are the top teams of english football and will be until another team gets more money.

Gervinho was so isolated up front, Totti has to step back and they have to get a striker with a killer instinct.

Just looked like Roma wanted the 0-0 to go through after the first half. Second half Roma only really tried when they went a goal behind.

Roma ultimately just didn't do enough to win the game, all italian teams do this when they only need a draw. They play safe and dont take too many risk and it backfires every time.

Napoli against Chelsea, Italy in the world cup, and Roma tonight are a few examples.
